Pastor Emeritus Provis Carter

Provis Carter was born on February 27, 1932, in Winston County, Mississippi, to the late Unice and Artie Carter. He was educated in the county school system through twelfth grade. He joined the U.S. Army after graduation serving two years active duty (six years reserve service) in Virginia and South Carolina and Detroit. Provis moved to Detroit and began studying accounting at Cass Tech during the evenings. He was employed by Chrysler, Veterans Administration, General Motors, and at one point owned and operated a Gulf service station. Provis courted a young lady that was to become his loving wife in a wonderful marriage that lasted over 61 years. While attending a camp meeting, Fannie was healed, and they, both were saved, starting a journey that would sustain them down through the years. They attended bible college together in Detroit and Indiana as well, receiving their certifications. They moved to Saginaw in the early 1960s, continuing their faith walk at Beatty Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. While at Beatty Tabernacle, Pastor Carter said he had a vision before he started preaching, in which he saw a group of other preachers and the Lord told him not to follow any of them, but to trust in Him for guidance. It would be another two years when he accepted the call into the ministry in the early 1970s and then moved to Emmanuel Church of Deliverance, where he and Mother Carter served together faithfully for 48 years. Provis continued through good health and challenges until taking his flight. Pastor Carter never missed a day spending time with his loving wife. Pastor Carter leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Faye Elizabeth Carter, daughters, Lillia Pugh and Maclobia (Connie) Morales; son, Darryl Robbins; god-son, Michael Griffrin; grandsons, D. Xavier Robbins, Edward Juarez, and Jenaro ‘Poncho’ Juarez; granddaughters, Karlessa Morton, Sharmonica Pugh, Ce’Aira R.L. Robbins, Esther Morales, Doris Mims and Ruth Morales; great-grandson, Darion Morales; special nephew, Sam Culberson and a host of god-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Mother Fannie R. Carter; his parents, Unice and Artie Carter; sisters, Lillie Mae Woods, Hargie Culberson, Lue Willie Harden; brothers, Pervis Carter and Edward Carter. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2022, at Emmanuel Church of Deliverance, 1709 Janes Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Murry Culberson will officiate. Interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, Michigan 48442. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. following a Celebrating praise from 6:00-8:00 PM.
