Mrs. Emma Lee Coleman

Mrs. Emma Lee Coleman made her heavenly transition to be with her Lord and Blessed Savior on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the age of 93 years. She was born in Louisville, Mississippi October 1, 1925 the daughter of Mandy Jernigan and Lewis McClendon. Our beloved mother was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church until her health began to decline. She was an active member of Usher Board #2 and enjoyed being a member of the Bethel Gospel Choir. Our mother, after completing an early education, by the grace and favor of God on her life, she inherited Classic Cleaners back in the early 60’s and successfully managed two locations. She was also an anointed seamstress and tailor for Webster’s Men’s Wear and Bachrach Men’s Clothing Store. Her interests included singing, dancing and cooking. She enjoyed providing for her family and caring for her flowers. Mrs. Coleman leaves three daughters and two sons to cherish many precious memories, Helen Brooks, Rudolph Coleman, Sammy (Lisa) Coleman and Deborah Coleman, all of Saginaw, and Janice Coleman of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Pastors Evelyn (Roy) Baldwin, Saginaw, Eleanor (Lorenzo) Jones, Clinton Township, Theodore Brooks, Columbus, OH, Howard Martin, Lansing, MI, Lisa Brewer, Saginaw, Atonya (Maurice) Patterson, Saginaw, Emma Brooks, Brownstown, Wendell (MarKysha) Ford, Atlanta, GA, Howard (Krystal) McClendon, Houston, TX, Kirk (Bianca) Carruth, Saginaw, Dambriell (Mimi) McClendon, Saginaw, Kayla (Anwar) Collins, Saginaw, Diara Bancroft, Dearborn, Samara Coleman, Grand Rapids, Sandra Calhoun, Saginaw, Shayla Ford, Shelby Township; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; a special great-nephew, Curtis Lewis; special daughters, Priscilla Ford and Marie McClendon; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Margarite Hart, Jackson, MI, Florene McGlothin, Lansing, MI, Lorene Burnell, Saginaw, MI and a longtime friend, Lela Johnson, McDonough, GA. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husbands, Dan Liddell and Sam Coleman; parents, Lewis McClendon and Mandy Jernigan; son, Howard McClendon; grandson, Donnie Brewer; stepmother, Lonnie Liddell; sister, Hattie Liddell; brothers, Howard Jernigan, CB Jernigan, Erzy Jernigan, Henry Liddell and Yz Liddell; son-in-law, Thado Brooks; brother-in-law, Jesse Liddell. The family would like to express special thanks to the entire staff at Great Lakes Rehabilitation Center; Covenant Hospice Care; Alonzo Betts and staff at Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 535 Cathay Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family hour will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
