Mr. Errol "Macky" Jackson

Our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, and uncle went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Age 61 years. Errol, or more fondly called, “Macky” was born on July 30, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. He was the son of the late Rev. Maude Burton and Theodore Jackson. He moved to Saginaw, MI as a toddler where he grew up and lived out his life. Soon after moving to Saginaw he joined Bethel AME Church, where he became an altar boy and member of the Sunday School. He continued as a member of Bethel AME Church throughout his life but also was a musician at Jarena AME Church, where he regularly worshiped and played the guitar, drums, piano and keyboard. From the time he was a young boy “Macky” loved animals. One time as a kid he even got in trouble for trying to sneak and bring a frog back with him on a trip from Louisiana, the frog got loose in the car. Everyone who knew him knew he loved animals. He had dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, geese, fish and more. In his teens and twenties he was lead guitar player for a band called “The Last Generation Band”. Sometimes when they would practice it seemed as if the whole house would shake. Macky was also a true disciple. As disciples, the Great Commission calls us to bring others to God. Macky lived out that call. On any given Sunday Macky would arrive at church with 2, 3 even 4 people. He was a good man who loved people and people loved him. It did not matter if you were young, old, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, or any other race. It did not matter if you were saved, hood, drug user, rich, poor, downtrodden, sick, well, sinner or saint. If Macky met you, he befriended you. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and opened his doors to many. He was a hard worker who retired from GM’s Delphi Automotive Plant, (Saginaw Steering Gear) where he had worked for over 30 years. Left to cherish his memory is his son, and name sake, Errol (Marissa) Baty; his father, Theodore Jackson; stepmother, Dorothy Jean Jackson; his grandchildren, Christian Baty, Caebre Baty, and Traejon Renaud; two stepsons, Amari Henley and Antonio Shaquinn Baker; six sisters, Sonya Lampkin, Joyce (Archie) Hodge, Secily (Angelo) Yates, Karen Jones, Lisa Scott and Deidra (Howard) McEachern; one aunt, Vivian Thompson; four nieces, Shanika Lampkin, Diamond Davis, Shaniya Yates and Teleah McEachern; three nephews, Ian Jones, D’Antonio Scott and Christopher Scott; three special cousins, who lovingly tended to him and cared for his animals in his ladder days, Wayne Lampkin, Rhonda Jennings, and Addison Thompson; two great nieces and three great nephews; a special friend, Margo Ballard; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Macky was predeceased by his mother, Rev. Maude Burton; stepfather, LeRoy Burton; and stepsister, Mary Lee Short. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay Street, Pastor P. David Saunders, host pastor. Rev. Clarence Atwater will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
