Essie Mae Patrick

Essie Mae Patrick was born on April 22, 1939 in Union Spring, AL to Tommie and Mary (Williams) Works. She died on February 16, 2013 in Lawton, OK with her family at her side. She was 73. Mother Patrick was raised and attended school in Alabama. After leaving school, she lived a short time in Newark, NJ where she married William Aaron Patrick on January 18, 1958, and then settled in Saginaw, MI. Mother Patrick worked outside the home for many years as a cook, and was well known in her church and by her family for the wonderful dishes she prepared. She served as a foster parent for over 11 years at Boysville of Michigan, and in her spare time enjoyed watching and playing basketball, baseball, softball, card games and singing. While in Saginaw, she was active at Prince of Peace Baptist Church where she was president of the choir and sang with the gospel group, “Gospel Superiors”. Failing health forced her to move closer to her daughters in Lawton where she assumed the position Mother of the Church, faithful Sunday school participant, and honorary choir member at Harvest Plenty House of Prayer. Mother Patrick was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Irene Jones, Arstella Shell, Ula Mae Allen and Currine Irvin; as well as 9 brothers, J.D., Charlie, Jimmie, Johnnie, David, Tommie, James, Willie and Jessie Works. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mary Ann Jackson and husband Samuel, and Jennette Hutchinson and husband Bishop Samuel Hutchinson, Jr., all of Lawton; 2 sons, Jerome Patrick, Sr. and wife Joyce, and Michael Lee Patrick, Sr. and wife Patricia, all of Saginaw, MI; 2 surviving siblings, Lizzie Works and Moses Works, both of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren, Jerome Patrick Jr. and wife Rayline of Virginia Beach, Lekeisha Nicole Allen and husband Jamar of Indianapolis, Gregory Patrick and wife Tiffany of Grand Rapids, Havand Lee Hibbler and fiancée Brandee Means of Tulsa, Michelle Patrick of Ypsilanti, Chanteau Patrick of Highland, Dontae Jamahl Cooper of Norman, Samarah Janae Hutchinson of Lawton, Michael Patrick Jr. of Lansing, Jailen Patrick of Saginaw, Dezmond Patrick of Saginaw, Travis L. Jackson of Lawton, Tiahna L. Jackson of Charlotte, NC, Tenealle L. Jackson, also of Charlotte, and Samuel Hutchinson III, Isaac Hutchinson and Emmanuel Hutchinson, all of Lawton; 16 great-grandchildren, Harmonee Le’Nise Hibbler, Gregory Patrick Jr., Isaiah Patrick, Chloe Maissa Patrick, Raymond Jerome Patrick, Rosalina Cantohos, Elisaia Cantohos, Ka’maria M. Jackson, Isaac D. Hutchinson, Jr., Marquice Hutchinson, Ilijah Hutchinson, Isaiah Hutchinson, Isyss Hutchinson, Avery Hutchinson, Serenity Hutchinson and Synia Hutchinson; 2 special nieces, Stacy and Briana Works, and a special nephew, Qon’te Works. Survivors also include a host of additional nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving and devoted church families in both Saginaw and Lawton. The family would like to express a special thanks to Katja Miller and Claurice Jackson with Baptist Home Care, the folks at Frensius Dialysis Unit East, and Mother Patrick’s drivers, James Dotter and Ronnie Calkins who did so much to assist her during her illness. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Prince of Peace Baptist Church, 725 North 24th Street. Pastor Robert Corley, Jr. will officiate with interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
