Mrs. Evalena Jones

Evalena Jackson Jones passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the age of 93 years. She was born to George and Stella Jackson on February 23, 1924 in Ludowici, Georgia. She was baptized at New Hope AME Church at the age of eight years old. Evalena came to Saginaw, MI in 1945 and joined Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor F.C. Jones in 1946. She was a faithful and active member of the Missionary Society, Sunday School, Youth Department, BTU, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and the founder of the Harvest Festival and Women’s Day. Evalena was a member for forty eight years. She later became a member of Corinthian Baptist Church on September 14, 1994 under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Manning, where she served as President of the Mission. Evalena organized the Senior Mission Choir and the Senior Citizens Club. She also gave away clothes monthly at CAC for many years. Evalena married Woodrow Wilson Jones, Sr. on November 23, 1945. To this union came three devoted children, Wilmer Jones Ham (Curtis) McZee, Wilson (Lela) Jones, Jr., both of Saginaw, MI and Wendy Jones of Flint, MI; grandchildren, DeRonnie (Yolanda) Turner, Darvin (Deneitra) Ham, Sr., DeToya Ham, Woodrow Jones III, Crystal (Marcus) Jackson and Frederick Jones; eight great-grandchildren, Darvin Ham Jr., Jevon Moon, Donovan Ham, DaRhonda Turner, Alexis Turner, Dominic Ham, Markeece Jackson, Malena Jackson, and Maurice Jackson; two-great-great-grandchildren, Catayela Morris and Darvin Ham III. Mrs. Jones was proceeded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Jones, Sr.; siblings Alberta, Ada, Maggie, Margaret, and Lester Jackson. Special thanks to Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Roy L. Manning and Corinthian Baptist Church family for their love, care, and support. Family hour will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 104 S. 10th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Roy L. Manning will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
