Mr. Felix Johnson

Felix Earl Johnson, a man of deep faith, southern warmth, and a servant’s heart, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the age of 80. His passing was sudden and unexpected, leaving a profound void in the hearts of all who loved him. Born on May 5, 1945, in Eupora, Mississippi, Felix was the seventh of ten children born to Troy Johnson and Bennie (Ford) Johnson. He was shaped by faith, family, and community from the very beginning. He attended Liberty Methodist Church and Webster County Training School, carrying with him the lessons of humility, resilience, and perseverance. As a teenager, he left Eupora and journeyed north to Saginaw, Michigan, where he built a life marked by hard work, love, and devotion. While working and raising his children, Felix proudly earned his GED, proving that determination and faith could accomplish all things. Felix began his career at General Motors as a janitor and through grit and commitment worked his way up to become a Production worker. He was a proud and active member of UAW Local 699, not only laboring faithfully for 34 years but also volunteering in community outreach, food giveaways, and church service. He embodied the values of loyalty, diligence, and fellowship, both on the job and beyond. At home, Felix found joy in the simple yet profound gifts of life. With a green thumb, he cultivated beauty in the garden, and with gifted hands in the kitchen, he became known as a remarkable cook. His meals nourished not just bodies but also spirits, gathering family and friends around the table in love and laughter. Over the years, he catered countless events with his culinary comrades, leaving behind full stomachs, warm memories, and lasting fellowship. Felix’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. A long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, he later joined New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1995, where he found purpose and joy in serving faithfully in the Kitchen Ministry. His service was more than food — it was ministry, an expression of his love for God and for people. Above all, Felix was a family man. He was the proud father of his two beloved children, Phelan and Courtney Johnson, and the doting grandfather of his cherished 9-year-old grandson, Dallas Johnson. His family was his greatest blessing, and he poured love, wisdom, and encouragement into their lives every single day. He delighted in his many nieces and nephews, treasured his sisters and in-laws, and cherished a circle of friends too numerous to count. To know Felix was to know kindness, generosity, and joy. Felix leaves to honor his memory: his son, Phelan Johnson of Saginaw, MI; his daughter, Courtney Johnson of Sterling Heights, MI; his grandson, Dallas Johnson of Ypsilanti, MI; sisters, Clara L. Robinson of West Point, MS, and Gladys L. Henry of Ypsilanti, MI; sisters-in-law, Joyce Rivers and Rose Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Johnson and Bennie (Ford) Johnson; his brothers, James Troy Johnson, Marcell “Pee Wee” Johnson, Mancell Johnson, Carl Johnson, and Johnnie Nelson Johnson; his sister, Gwendora Robinson; and his special mother-in-law, Emma Brandon. Felix will forever be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, a servant of the Lord, and a devoted family man. He has gone on to glory, his legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23 Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3610 Russell St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Alfred Harris will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
