Franetta Vea “Frankie” McConico-Small was born on July 30, 1956 in West Memphis, Arkansas to James B. McConico and Gloria Butler. She passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 64 years. Franetta Vea “Frankie” McConico-Small was born on July 30, 1956 in West Memphis, Arkansas to James B. McConico and Gloria Butler. She passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 64 years. After the unfortunate death of her mom at an early age, Frankie and her brother, Willie Brooks grew up in Cleveland, Ohio with their grandmother. They were surrounded by lots of family with love and strong family values. She often spoke of her sisters, Kitty and Teddy who were actually her aunts but they were raised as sisters. Then, there was her Aunt Erma and her daughter who she loved with all her heart. In 1974 she came to live with her father, Aunt Beulah and grandmother Ora, and a host of aunts, and cousins in Denver. Frankie was overwhelmed by the beauty of Denver, CO. The one thing she could not get enough of, was the mountains, and she described how clean it was compared to Ohio. Frankie was a free spirit who loved traveling and sharing her gift of compassion and great cooking with all she met. She was a pro who worked as manager of nursing homes in the kitchen, as well as assisted living, giving the clients the great gifts of her culinary skills. The one thing I can truly say about, my Cuz Frankie, in her God given gifts, taught folk, fortunate enough to know her, true humility on how to love. While living in Denver, around 2000, she met the love of her life, Mr. David Small. They married and were happy. He was a good man who loved her lots. Frankie, with her traveling spirit went to Michigan this time, and a few years later returned to Denver, and then back to Michigan. She was working on a return to Denver, when we lost her due to the pandemic. Frankie had a true gift on showing folks how to love. Mrs. McConico-Small leaves in mourning, adopted daughters, Shakeisha and Felicia; many grandchildren; her brother, Willie Brooks; sister, Vanessa Smith (aunt), faithful cousin, Shareka, who hung in there with her and her cousins from Denver, Berkley, Brenda, Bonita and Christine who live in Houston; a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Craig Clark will officiate.
