Geneva Rutherford

Mrs. Geneva (Chris) Rutherford was born September 4,1936 to the late Onious Matthews Sr. and the late Shirt Etta (Earnest) Kelly in Luxora, Arkansas. She departed this life on Friday, March 1, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She accepted Christ at an early age. Geneva (Chris) met the love of her life and married George Rutherford Sr. on June 15, 1960. They toured Gary, Indiana, and Louisville Kentucky, then decided to settle in Saginaw, Michigan in 1964. They looked out for family members by encouraging them to move to this area for job opportunities, and they did a good job at it too! For many years Geneva (Chris) was known as the Avon Lady. She would take your orders just right. However, she would add something extra you didn’t order and convince you to buy it. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, fishing, music, dancing and home videos. Most of all she enjoyed family and friends. Mrs. Geneva (Chris) Rutherford leaves to cherish her legacy, her husband, George Rutherford Sr. of Saginaw, MI; two sons, George (Tracy) Rutherford Jr. & Gregory (Donn) Rutherford Sr. of Saginaw, MI; fourteen grandchildren, Kierra, George III, Shanice, Tramece, Shabria, Gregory II Rutherford, Bre’Aoncia Boykins, Qwantoria Wesley & Donquarius Mitchell all of Saginaw, MI, Geniyah Rutherford, Rashard, Mercedes, Dontrell Price & Depree Blackmon all of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Le’Taysia Scott, Trawvon Wesley, Deontavis Evanster Jr., A’niyah Jackson, Stephen Simmons Jr. all of Saginaw, MI; four sisters, Irene (Leonard) Batts, Velvia (Charlie) Monroe & Felvia Holmes all of Saginaw, MI, Bernice (Joe) Brooks of Osceola, AR; eight brothers, Ernest (Willie) Matthews Sr., Onious (Ada) Matthews Jr. & Joe Kelley all of Saginaw, MI, Eugene (Glenda) Kelly Sr., Maurice (Janice) Kelly Sr., Bobby (Rose) Kelly Sr., & Allen Kelley Sr. all of Osceola, AR, Zebedee (Tammy) Kelly of FT. Lauderdale, FL; three aunts, Eldora (Earnest) Easton, Maggie (Samuel) Wiley, Savannah (John) James; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Greg) Crochkand of San Antonio, TX; & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws & friends. She was preceded in death by all her grandparents; two sisters, Earnestine Kelly-Woodson & Myra Kelly-Robinson; one brother, Myron Kelly; father & mother-in-law, Charlie & Sarah Rutherford; sister-in-law, Gladys Rutherford-Carr; brothers-in-law, Freddie Lee Johnson, Venice Holmes, Gene Love, & Joseph Lay. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Freedom Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2259 Williamsom Rd. Pastor Eddie Bragg will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
