Mr. George Clay Rutherford, Sr.

George confessed his belief in Christ at an early age. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, God reached down from heaven above and softly took Mr. George Clay Rutherford, Sr. home. He was 73 years of age, born February 21, 1941 in Grayport, MS, the fifth of six children born to the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Sarah (Lay) Rutherford. George met his soul mate and the love of his life, marrying the late Mrs. Geneva (Chris) Matthews-Rutherford on June 15, 1960. After seeking job opportunities in various states in 1964, they decided to settle in Saginaw, MI, where George served 27 years at Malleable Iron Plant. In 1970 and 1972, they were joined by two sons, George Jr. & Gregory. George was genuine, very humorous, had an impeccable way of communicating and became quite the business man! He enjoyed home movies, traveling, game activities, family functions - just people in general. Mr. George Clay Rutherford Sr. leaves to cherish his legacy, his sons, George (Tracy) Rutherford, Jr. and Gregory (Donn) Rutherford, Sr. of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Keyira, George III, Shanece, Tramece, Sha’bria, Gregory II Rutherford, Bre’Aonica Boykins, Qwantoria Wesley, Donquarius Mitchell, and Dwight Hargrove, Jr., all of Saginaw, MI, Ganiyah Rutherford, Rashard, Mercedes, Dontrell Price and Depree Blackmon, all of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; great-grandchildren, LeTaysia Scott, Travon Wesley, Deontavis Evans, Jr., Aniyah Jackson, Stephen Simmons, Jr., and soon to arrive, Kali Doss, all of Saginaw, MI; sister, Mary Ann (Greg) Crochkand of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law, Irene (Leonard) Batts, Velvia (Charlie) Monroe and Felvia Holmes, all of Saginaw, MI, and Bernice (Joe) Brooks of Osceola, AR; brothers-in-law, Ernest (Willie) Matthews Sr., Onious (Ada) Matthews, Jr. and Joe Kelley, all of Saginaw, MI, Eugene (Glenda) Kelly, Sr., Maurice (Janice) Kelly, Sr., Bobby (Rose) Kelly, Sr., and Allen Kelly, Sr., all of Osceola, AR, Zebedee (Tammy) Kelly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, including special friends, Clarence (Emma) Bingham of Flint, MI, Major (Anna) Flournoy, and Melvin (Carolyn) Hall, all of Saginaw, MI. He was preceded in death by all his grandparents, two sisters, Freddie Lee Johnson, Gladys Rutherford-Carr; two brothers, Joseph Lay, and Gene Love, father and mother-in-law, Onious Matthews Sr. and Shirt Etta (Earnest) Kelly; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Freedom Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2259 Williamson Road. Pastor Eddie L. Bragg will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the family hour.
