Georgia Diggs

Mrs. Georgia Lee Diggs departed this life to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the age of 88 years. She was born July 4, 1925 in Newellton, LA to her parents, Myles and Georgia Troutman. She retired in 1991 from the State of Michigan Department of Human Services. Georgia was a devoted member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years where she served on the Senior Usher Board, the Missionary Board and also on the Kitchen Committee. Georgia had a love for flower gardening and would spend countless hours planting and caring for the flowers at True Vine Church, Morley School and her own home. This caused her to be affectionately referred to by many as “the flower lady”. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Hazel Marie McMullen, Lovera “Peaches” Woods and Beverly Ann “Betty” Diggs, all of Saginaw, MI; one sister, Hazel M. Roberts and one brother, Johnnie Phillips, both of Saginaw, MI; the Forte’ family, whom she loved as her own children, Essie, Margaret, Dorothy, Henry, Woodrow and Jessie; 13 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Tamaris L. Diggs, whom the family would like to thank for the loving care she provided when her grandmother needed it the most; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends, including special niece, Linda Troutman and special friends, Howard Reginald Price and Charlene (George) Porter. Georgia was preceded in death by five children, Barbara Jones, James Diggs, Verdia Nickson-Price, Leroy Diggs and Larry Diggs; Mary Forte, whom she loved like her own daughter; two granddaughters, Norma Jean “Jeani”, Johnson and Brenda Clark; three sisters, Elizabeth Moore, Gertrude Forte’ and Ora D. Aytch; four brothers, Porter Troutman, Myles Troutman, Willie B. Troutman and James Troutman; and two best friends that she loved like a brother and sister, George Parham and Carrie Mae Bigby. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Truevine Baptist Church, 2930 Janes, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Paul E. Broaddus will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Ave., on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
