Mr. Gregory Lawrence Harvin

Mr. Gregory Lawrence Harvin was born on August 12, 1957 in Flint, Michigan the son of Bennie and Geneva Harvin. He passed away on January 28, 2024 at the age of 66 years. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior as a young adult under the guidance of the late Rev. Seldon Wiliams, Jr. He served faithfully in his church whenever he was not on the road. Gregory attended Beecher High School “Class of 1976” where he was a member of the Wrestling Team, earned the distinct honor of being given A Good Citizenship Award by the Michigan State Police in 1973. During his time at Beecher High School, he joined the Boy Scouts of America and became an Assistant Scoutmaster and the Arrowhead District First Aid-O-Rec. On January 14, 1974 he became the first Black youth to become and Eagle Scout in the Chippewa District with Boy Scout Troop 191 and later became a member of the Order of the Arrow. This was certified by the National Boy Scouts of America. Gregory earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Michigan University majoring in Conservation. After graduating, he started C.I.H. Trucking Enterprises/Owner Operator which solidified his career as a professional truck driver. He retained a multi-year contract with Atlas Van Lines, Special Products Division. This led him to make many connections on the road with other truck drivers. Gregory never met a stranger and loved to talk. Whenever he met new drivers that were just starting, he gave them good advice from his experiences on the road. When he wasn’t “easing down the road” and exploring the country, Greg loved to barbeque (skills which he took after his dad). He also loved to watch the History Chanel, Western movies, Sci-fi movies and his favorite “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “Man” as we called him absolutely loved to spend time with family and friends. Mr. Gregory Lawrence Harvin leaves to cherish many precious memories, his wife, Joyce Williams-Harvin; children, Tonya Donahue, Atlanta, GA and Tabari Harvin, Saginaw; bonus children, Dean Isom, Jr. and R. J. Dickerson; siblings, Margaret (Arthur) Harvin-Cole, Atlanta, GA, Gary (Yvonne) Harvin, Cyress, TX and Tracy Miller, Flint, MI; Linda “Cookie” Williams; aunts,; uncles; special cousins, Augustine Lee and Marcola Powell; a ton of nieces nephews, other cousins and a boat load of friends including longtime friend Timm Marks and special family, Trecie Williams. Mr. Gregory Lawrence Harvin was preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Geneva Harvin; mother and father-in-love, Deacon Andrew and Pearline Williams; sister, Gayle Harvin. The family would like to sincerely express gratitude to Dr. Houmon Nourkeyhani, Carolyn Mason, Tina Williams, Marcola Powell, Trecie Williams, Atlas Van Lines, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church-Saginaw, Pastor Jessie D. McIntosh and the King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church family. Famiiy hour 10:00 AM Friday, February 16, 2024 at King Solomon Baptist Church, 2220 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jessie D. McIntosh, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Mr. Harvin will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
