Mr. Gregory Allen Spain

Gregory Allen Spain “Tip” was born September 26, 1959 in Saginaw, MI the son of Delores Dowdell and Samuel Collier. He passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 22, 2019 after a lengthy illness at Covenant Healthcare. He was member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and was educated in the Saginaw Public School System. He worked many years for Sleep Diagnostic in Saginaw, MI and Nightgale Nursing Home in Sterling Heights, MI. Gregory joined the family traditions of participating in various sports such as baseball, football, wrestling and basketball. He enjoyed playing cards, dominos and fantasy football with family and a host of friends. His favorite passion was cooking, he learned from watching his grandparents Joseph and Eloise Spain. He would watch them stir the pots and prepare the food in the family kitchen. After he learned the skill of cooking, he accepted the challenge of cooking for family events. Marcus Bell and Gregory would participate and compete in numerous BBQ cookouts in Buena Vista Township and Saginaw County. Gregory leaves to cherish his memory, his loving son, Elijah Allen Spain; two grandchildren, Kaiya Mariah, and Makari Spain, all of Williamsburg, VA; his family members who will truly miss him and cherish his memory are, aunts, Josephine Henderson and Gloria Butler, of Warren, MI; uncles, David Dowdell, of Saginaw, MI, Terry Spain, of Madison, WI, Calvin Goldsby, of Detroit MI and Tommie Joe Spain, of Birmingham Al; cousins, Renea Spain and Keesha Coleman, both of Saginaw, MI, Raynard and Latrina Butler, both of Warren, MI, Lamont( Tamara) Primus, of Southfield, MI, Henry (Diamond) Peoples, of Lansing, MI, Tieonia Wigham, of Akron, OH, Yvonne Luckett-Quinn, of Chicago, IL, Marcus Harrison, of Saginaw, MI, Deon Harrison, of Miami, FL, Dematriona, D’anna, and Danay Choyce, D’Mondre, Dion, and David Harrison, of Saginaw, MI; his loving friend, Christine Wilson; stepdaughter, Shatisha Wilson; and his beautiful granddaughter, Sierra Wilson, all Saginaw, MI. They will all miss his presence in their lives. Mr. Spain had a host of friends that will truly miss him, Marcus Bell, Quincy Thomas, Charlie Sanders, Sam Templeton, Donald Stevenson, Cruz and Theresa Chingman, Clyde and Vivian Jackson, Leon Weaver, Ronald and Donald Reed, Danyelle Perry, Mattie Jones, Jerome Wilson, James Porter, Arthur Thomas,Spidhum Family and many more. Mr. Spain was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Maci and Lela Dowdell; grandparents, David Goldsby, Joseph and Eloise Spain; step-grandfather, William Walker; mother, Delores Dowdell; father, Samuel Collier; uncles, Ronnie Joe Spain and Tyrone Dowdell; cousin, Rodney Butler; and friends, Mammie Jones, Charlie Robinson, Patricia Haucly, Clem Haucly and Myron Richardson. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Minister Lee Thomas will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place at 9:00 am until the time of service.
