Mr. Harold Derek Young

Mr. Harold Derek Young passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the age of 53 years. He was born May 12, 1962 in Saginaw, MI to Charles and Katherine (Young) Thompson. Harold was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, MI. He was a member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church and a graduate of Saginaw High School. He has a B.S. in Math and Computer Science from Central State University and a M.A. in Administration from Saginaw Valley State University. Harold was employed with the Saginaw Board of Education and retired in 2008. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma and Prince Hall Mason. Mr. Young liked to joke around and enjoyed bowling. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He was an All American/State football player for Saginaw High School and also played for Central State and Delaware State Universities. He coached youth football and basketball at Saginaw High, Buena Vista, Arthur Hill, and Arthur Eddy. Harold was a 2 time High School All State Football player and 2 time All Valley Football player for Saginaw High School. He played in the Black College All Star game in 1984. Mr. Young leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Traci Ann Young, Saginaw, MI; children, Cortland, Chandler, Carrington, Caylon and Chloe Young, all of Saginaw, MI; grandchild, Chad Young, Saginaw, MI; step-father, Charles Thompson, Saginaw, MI; sisters, Valerie (Larrie) Packard, Saginaw, MI, Tammy (Maurice) Shelton, Washington, D.C. and Yolanda (Stephon) Galloway, Chesterfield Twp., MI; brother, Tyrone Weaver, Saginaw, MI; sisters-in-law, Sue McDole, Conyers, GA, Louise (John) Clark, Grand Rapids, MI, Janie Cork, Saginaw, MI, Grady (Bobby) Lidell, Park Ridge, IL and Stephanie Crockett, Flint, MI; brothers-in-law, Chester (Arlonia) Surles, Saginaw, MI, Shannon (Teresa) Surles, Arlington, TX, Marvin Surles, Plano, TX, Leon (Elicia) Surles, Murphy, TX, Michael Surles, Covington, GA and Keith (Rosemary) Surles, Houston, TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends including special friends, Terry Staples, Steve Halmon, Kenneth Frierson, Leo Goodman, Nathaniel Clark, Bobby Swope, Pastor Marvin Corr, Jeff Goodwine and Frank Baniel . Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine (Young) Thompson; father-in-law, Chester Surles, Sr., mother-in-law, Bernice Surles; and grandmother, Edna Mae Blakes. The family would like to express special thanks to, Fresenius Medical Care, Saginaw, MI. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 104 S. 10th St. Pastor Roy L. Manning, Sr. will officiate with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
