Mr. Hayward Oliver Sr.

Hayward Oliver, Sr. was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on May 25, 1939 to his proud parents, Bennie and Emma Lee Oliver. He was their third son. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather. Mr. Oliver passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the age of 81 years. He joined the Midway Missionary Baptist Church in Tuskegee, AL at the age of twelve. Later in life, he became a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw, MI and was an active member until his health declined. He attended Tuskegee Institute High School in Tuskegee, AL and excelled in learning construction work in building houses and other structures. After finishing high school, he migrated to Chicago, IL and met the love of his life Cora Oliver. From this union, two sons were born, Hayward Oliver, Jr. and Geofrey Dewayne Oliver. Later the family moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he became the first black Union Carpenter and remained there until his death. He enjoyed traveling from city to city on different job sites and visiting family. Hayward loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. His tender smile touched the hearts of many. Hayward leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Hayward Oliver, Jr.; grandchildren, David A. Oliver, Saginaw, MI, Cherryante Jones, Atlanta, GA, DeHayward (Candace) Oliver, Saginaw, MI, Bennie M. (Kris) Oliver, Alma, MI, Coressa M. Oliver, Alexander A. Oliver and Lydia R. Oliver all of Saginaw, MI; brother, Eddie B. Oliver, Chicago, IL; sisters, Delores Oliver-Baker, Eloise Oliver-Anderson, Beverly Oliver-Liken all of Tuskegee, AL; brother, Wilbur C. Oliver, Tuskegee, AL. To cherish precious memories, he leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends including an honorary son, Patrick Reed. On December 1, 2020, Hayward fell asleep in death. He was preceded in death by wife, Cora Mae Oliver; youngest son, Geofrey ; grandson, Devonte Weems; mother and father, Emma Lee and Bennie Oliver; his brothers, Earnest Oliver and Bennie Oliver. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Funeral service will commence at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Dr. Willie F. Casey will officiate.
