Mr. Herman Kevin Wearrien

Mr. Herman Kevin Wearrien was born August 17, 1962 in Patterson, New Jersey to Herman Wearrien and Bessie Nash. He passed away on May 19, 2018 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper at the age of 55 years. Kevin accepted Christ at an early age and attended Grant Street, Williams Memorial C.O.G.I.C., now known as Victorious Believers Ministries Church of God In Christ until he relocated to Grand Rapids, MI. Upon returning to Saginaw 18 years later, he became a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Otis Washington where Kevin served as the lead guitarist in the Music Ministry. Kevin attended the Buena Vista Public Schools and was presently employed at Menard’s Distribution Center. He was a jokester, fun loving person with a kind and humble spirit and always kept a smile on his face. As an only child Kevin grew up spending his summers in Buford, SC with his family and making many friends. He was proud to be a Wearrien and often bragged about those Wearrien Boys. He had a passion for cars, especially his 1975 light blue Buick Regal. “Fat Back” was known for being the first person to rig a TV in his car and roll up and down Genesee Street. Mr. Wearrien enjoyed dressing in nice suits and especially wearing that special suit on “Mothers’ Day” for church. Kevin began playing the guitar at the early age of two years old and as the years went by his talent flourished. Kevin was blessed, he was so cold that he could play the guitar with his teeth. He had often played in School Talent Shows, and for various groups such as the Heavenly Harmonizers, Solid Rock, Wings of Faith, The Front Page Band, Five O’Clock Rock and shared his expertise when needed. Kevin leaves his best friend, the love of his life, his soulmate and wife of 12 years, LaCresha Lynn; his loving and nurturing mother, Bessie (James) Nash; one daughter, Nicole Strong-Wearrien (Carlton Whitley); one grandson, Caaleb Murray, all of Grand Rapids, MI; one step-daughter, Ericka Cooper (Darius Williams); two god-daughters, Alana and DiMiya, both, of Saginaw, MI; one step-brother, Willie Lee Green of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law, Erma Cooper; three brothers-in-law, Derrick (Brenda) Cooper, George Cooper and James Luckyado; two sisters-in-law, Debbie (Eric) Isom and Cheryl Cooper (Leon Jackson) both of Saginaw, MI; four uncles, Archeles (Julia) Wearrien of Beaufort, South Carolina, Earl (Mary Ann) Wearrien of Shreveport, LA, Teotha Wearrien of Brooklyn, New York and Sam (Wendy) Simon of Flint, MI; ten aunts, Rebecca (Henry) Reaves, Helen Giles, all of Brooklyn, New York, Almanda (Oscar) Green of Charleston, South Carolina, Rev. Vernell Brabham of Denmark, South Carolina and Joanne Wearrien of Saginaw, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Pastor Otis Washington, Pastor Paul E. Broaddus, best friend/cousin, Earl Wearrien, The Front Page Band, Hilton and Leon Jackson, Mark Robinson, Bruce Brown, Ken Ryans, Oscar Wilson and The Messiah Baptist Church Music Ministry. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Herman Wearrien; grandparents, Harry (Glener) Simon, Freddie (Juanita) Wearrien and father-in-law, George Cooper. The family extends special thanks to Covenant Cooper ECC Team, Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, TrueVine Missionary Baptist Church, Five O’Clock Rock Community Choir and Front Page Band Family. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 2615 Williamson Road, Saginaw, MI 4860. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment at Forest lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may view at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
