Mr. Hosie Seawood, Jr.

Mr. Hosie Seawood, Jr. passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Hosie was born December 10, 1936 in Cairo, Illinois to the late Esther and Hosie Seawood, Sr. Hosie married his devoted wife Jeanie Solgate and their union lasted for 47 years. Hosie retired from Saginaw Valley State University where he worked for 25 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Jeanie Margaret Seawood; brother, Kenneth (Helen) Seawood; sister, Joanne Seawood, Lithonia, GA; sister-in-law, Jannet Patton; son, Michael Solgate; daughters, Ayanna (Lark) Allen, Lisa (Edward) Seawood-Murphy, Buckeye, AZ, Debra Seawood, Glendale, AZ, Annetrice Seawood and Estherlita Seawood, Gary IN; nephews, Andre, Donte and Kenneth Hart Jr., Marc Patton and Rick (Corey) Patton; nieces, Kenisha Hart, Lisa Patton and Marcy ( Michael) Markiewicz; 14 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren; special aunts, Marie Seawood, Arlene Hogan, Gary, IN; and Geneva Woodson, St. Paul, MN and Doris (Ernest Sr.) Sewood; special cousins, Charles “Lynn” (Shirley) Hill and Odell Smith, Benton Harbor, MI; special friend, Ronald “Sonny Boy” (Cynthia) Williams. Hosie grew up in Gary, Indiana and later moved to Michigan. Hosie was self educated and shared his knowledge with the ones around him. Hosie was an avid lover of jazz music and books on heritage and culture. Hosie was predeceased in death by his parents, Esther and Hosie Seawood Sr. and special cousin, Jerry (Brother) Seawood. Hosie had a contagious smile that would brighten up the room. He had a unique way with words and a special outlook on life. All that came in his presence knew right away that he was different and all have a story to tell regarding their first impression of Hosie. The family would like to give a special thanks to Grace Hospice Staff and Chaplain Jon Elledge, and Amanda LaPorte, RN for their special care and connection to Hosie. Special Thanks to Visiting Physicians Dr. Joseph Zarillo and Clarence Johnson, Medical Assistant for being so caring to Hosie. Special Thanks to caregivers who have become family in this journey Tiffany Nickleberry, Jakhalia Taylor, and Kelly Klenow. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Jon Elledge will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
