Mrs. Jackie Brooks

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt made her transition to become one of “God’s Special Angels” on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper Hospital at the age of 86 years. . Lillie Jacqueline (McArn) Brooks was born May 28, 1933 to James and Lillie (Shackelford) McArn in Saginaw, Michigan. She was the proud mother of six children and an extended mother to the children of 14th Street. Jackie attended Saginaw Public Schools and was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear, Div. of G.M. Plant #2 and Delphi Corporation for 23.1 years. She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 65 years and a faithful member of the Courtesy Board. Mrs. Brooks was a lifetime member of the N.A.A.C.P. She had a kind heart and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed making tacos for her lodge members, filling orders for her G.M. crew, going shopping, bowling and traveling with her Eastern Star Sisters. One of her greatest joys was being Past Worthy Matron Jacqueline Brooks; giving her time, talent and financial experience for more than fifty years to organizations and auxiliaries. She was adopted under Grand Chapter of Greater Queen Esther Grand Chapter of Detroit MI. She was faithful and a dutiful member of Bright Star #22/Sojourner Truth #40/Cordelia #48 Chapters: Order of Eastern Star, Treasurer, Past Worthy Matron of Cordelia Chapter, #48, Blue Star Court #5 Amaranth, Secretary, Lily of Valley Court #2 Heroines of Jericho, Secretary, Morning Glory Council #3 Lady of Knights, Treasurer, Oases Court #2, Daughters of Sphinx, secretary, Sheba Royal Ladies Palace of Michigan Past Recording Secretary, Supreme Royal Ladies Palace of North & South America. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jackie leaves to cherish many precious memories her children, Margo Hampton (Willie), Gloria McGhee, Joyce Brooks, Belvin Brooks (Cynthia), Dennis Brooks (Elaine) and Dale Mitchner (Charles); grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, Stacy Staffney and Tasha Brooks both of Saginaw, Ayanna Hampton, Upper Marlboro, MD, Karla and Tavares Brooks, Donovan Hughes all of Saginaw, Ebony Hampton-Davis, Upper Marlboro, MD, Tanita Rance, Charlotte, NC, Ashley Staffney-Baldwin (Darius) Upper Marlboro, MD, Dennis Brooks, Jr. Saginaw, Alexia and Donovan Gomez, Tiffany and Quincy Maxwell, Indianapolis, IN, Jonah Hampton and Grey Davis, Upper Marlboro, MD, Nyah Whitley, T'naeja Battle and Nehkhi Whitley all of Charlotte, NC, TyWaunne Hill, Avery and Emeri Hill all of Iowa, Marc,edes, Marnesha and Martravion Townsend, MyAngel Miller, Tavarion Pratt, Saul Rincher IV, all of Saginaw, Jeremiah Maxwell, Jayden Ewing, both of Indianapolis, IN, Dennis Brooks Jr., Channing Jackson and Jacqueline Rose Baldwin; sisters-in-law, Edith Brooks, Saginaw and Vera Brooks, Shady Grove, LA; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Brooks, Louisiana; many nieces and nephews too many to name including Joan Crawford, Saginaw, Donna Meredith, Detroit, Rosalind Smith, Gina and Karen McArn both of Texas; special Chapter sisters, Mary Ann Stewart, Kaye Terrell, Gloria Taylor, Maggie Reed, Alice F. Nickleberry, Henderson, NV, Dorothy Swafford, Miami, FL and Mary Brewer, Saginaw. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brooks, parents, James and Lillie McArn; siblings, Glynn McArn, Sr., Mildred Smith, Maxine McArn-Dangerfield, William (Piggy) McArn, Stanley McArn; nephews, Karl Brown, Stanley Brown, Goretha Baston and Virgil (Mousey) Sangster. The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Covenant Harrison and Cooper hospitals. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
