Mr. James "Billy" Edward Johnson

On February 3, 2023 Billy gained his “Heavenly Wings”. Although we hated to see him go we know that he is with his Heavenly Father. Billy was a man of Honor and Love. Mr. James “Billy” Johnson was born on January 3, 1949 in Newellton, Louisiana the son of Perry Wade and Rosie Lee Johnson. He passed away at the age of 74 years. He spent most of his childhood in his hometown before joining the U.S. Army. Billy was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, he received an Honorable Discharge and relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971. It was here that he began working at General Motors Corp. and eventually gained status as a longtime employee leading to his point of retirement. In his life outside of work Billy enjoyed spending time with his immediate and extended family, fishing with friends, and sharing his gift of music through many mediums; including his membership in the band at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and playing independently with his brother “Poppa” Eugene. James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Brenda Boyd-Johnson of Saginaw, MI; five children, Tanesha (John) Eley of Los Angeles, CA, LaToia “Angel” Johnson of Houston, TX, Bonita Johnson of Madison, AL, Sawandi Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Stephon Johnson of Saginaw, MI; two step-children, Tamika (Tony) Boyd-Powell and Latrice (Pierre) Ford, both of Saginaw; 17 grandchildren, Alga, Soteria, Gabriella, Joshua, Jonathon, Khyra, Kailee, LaKhai, Analicia, Tramia, Lauren, Kortney, June, John, Jaen, Ta’Daviyon and Laila; four great-grandchildren, Emmerie, MaKenzie, Journee and Rudal; one sister, Annie Lee Blair; five brothers, Eugene (Michelle) Blair, Willie Blair, Freddie Blair, James Moore Blair and Jimmy Lee Blair; a host of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Tanesha Blair; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Southward-Gipson, Pamela (Mosby) Clark and Juanita Boyd; two brothers-in-law, Michael and Jerry Boyd; many other relatives and friends including special friend, Antwan Mims. Mr. James Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Wade and Rose Lee Johnson; one sister, Willie Mae “Peaches” Walker; one brother, Isaac “Ray” Blair. The family would like to express special thanks to Saginaw Senior Care. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Miles Franklin will officiate. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Visitation will take place at the funeral home 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
