James Wardell Casey

Daddy, Granddad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and friend went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 8, 2013 at the age of 77 years. Wardell was born in Morgan County, Apalachee, GA on July 8, 1936, the son of James and Ola Bell Casey. Wardell later moved to Saginaw, MI where he met and married Rose Marie Jones in 1963. Wardell was employed by the General Motors Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant, retiring in 1981, and was a member of UAW Local 455. Wardell was an active and faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he served in the Male Choir. Wardell loved cooking dinner every Sunday, where he enjoyed family and friends stopping by to eat. His joy was spending family time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. His favorite pastime was watching the Western Channel, MSNBC and watching sports, especially the Williams sisters. He enjoyed singing with the Male Choir, attending Mt. Sinai Church, working on cars and assisting family and friends. If you were sick at home or in the hospital, expect a call or visit from Casey. He leaves to cherish precious memories, two daughters, Shila and Valarie Casey; one son, Derrick (Jacqueline) Barnes of Dover, DE; eight grandchildren, Latisha Casey of Columbus, GA, Jamar Jenkins, Santria Casey, William Casey of Saginaw, MI and Leland Casey of Cedar Rapids, IA; Tyrone Casey-Taylor and Jammal Barnes, both of Dover, DE, Michael Harris of Atlanta, GA and extended grandson, Emory Miller; three great-grandchildren, Amorice Miller of Saginaw, MI, Ayden and Austyn Casey of Columbus, GA, and expected great-grandbaby Casey of Cedar Rapids, IA; one brother, Walter Phinaee Casey of Madison, GA, two nephews, Pastor Vincent (Sharon) Casey and family of Covington, GA and Wyain Wardell (Stacy) Casey and family of Madison, GA; special cousins, Willie Pearl (Harvey) Campbell and family of Atlanta, GA, Brenda Smith and family, Willie Gus (Linda) Thomas and family; special aunt, Wilhemina Griffith; special friends, Rev. Lee Arthur Thomas and family, B. L. Little and family, Gloria Burton and family and Beatrice of Madison, GA. Wardell was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ola Bell Casey; grandparents, Jake and Julie Griffith; six uncles, James, Jimmy, J.C., Jake, Charlie and special uncle, Marion Griffith; three aunts, Ruth, Alma, Willie Mae; special cousins, Sammy Griffith and John Jr. Elder; and special friends, Willie Gus (Lucille) Thomas, Johnny Smith, special cousins, Ossie Mae Smith and Yvonne Whitson. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1210 N. 8th Street, Rev. Robert Harris, Pastor. Rev. Lee A. Thomas will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
