Mr. James Dancy Sr.

Mr. James Dancy, Sr. was born October 20, 1931 in Greenville, Alabama to Rosie Dancy and Will Hemphill. He passed away on August 23, 2025 at the at the age of 93 years. James was employed by General Motors Grey Iron Plant, and was a member of United Auto Workers Local #668. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he received an Honorable Discharge and returned to Grey Iron until his retirement. James proudly completed requirements to earn his G.E.D. Certificate. He enjoyed bowling however; golfing was his main sport. James was an impeccable dresser. Everything was colored coordinated, even on the golf course. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. James married Yzella Beeman, the mother of his children. She preceded him in death. Years later he chose another companion, Brenda Jones. Brenda and James did everything together except golf. Both were golfers. James was an avid golfer and would practice until whatever deficiency he perceived in his game became perfect. Brenda was Not. Needless to say, they didn’t get along very well on the golf course. Mr. James Dancy, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his companion, Brenda Jones; two grandsons, Gregory (RaSheda) Patterson II and Justin (Kia) Patterson; granddaughter, Kimberly (Michael Coleman) Dancy; great-grandchildren, Josiah James, Kimmore Dawkins and Christopher Williams; great-great-grandchild, Zarielle Williams; sons-in-law, Gregory Patterson I and Rogelio Garcia; sisters-in-law, Gladys (Kenneth) Fields, Velma Thompson, Jacquelyn Tyler, Gwendolyn (James) Scott, Sharon (Joerado) Frazer, Shawn Baker and Wanda Tart; brother-in-law, Lonnie Beeman, Vollie Beeman, Walter (Versie) Smith and Gresley (Laura) Smith; many nieces including special nieces, Mary Greene, Tuscaloosa, AL, Dr. Adrienne Anderson, Malinda Alston, Faye McKinnie, all of Saginaw; many nephews; including special nephews, Leo Hemphill and Christopher Smith, both of Saginaw and Ezekiel Dorsey of Georgia; his former daughter-in-law, Violet Dancy and her children whom he considered his grandchildren, Tony, Vonessa, Lana, Pandy, Patrice and Lance; other relatives and friends including long-time friends, other relatives and friends including long-time friends, Dennis and Gail Porter, Mack and Pat Young and Dorothy Harris. Loved ones that preceded James in death; his previous wife, Yzella Dancy; daughter, Lovetta Garcia; son, James (Nook) Dancy; his siblings, Minnie Evans, Crecie Hemphill, Willie Hemphill, Leo Hemphill, David Hemphill, Frank Hemphill, Watson Lang, Mell Lee Rowser, Dave Dancy, Fred Dancy, Johnny Dancy, Eddie Dancy, Robert Dancy, Estelle Buchanan, Annie Bell Paylor, Lizzie Phillips, Susie Beltonand Vinnie Watts. James lived his life well, filled with love for God and family. Now he has gone home to be with the Lord. Family Hour will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rodrick A. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Friday. August 29, 2025 at the funeral home.
