Mr. James "J.B." "Maine" Hadden

The sun rose for James Hadden, Jr. on August 2, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan, setting on September 29, 2017 at the age of 72 years. He was the son of James Hadden, Sr. and Lucille (McCloud) Surles. James biblical education began in Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sunday school and later Baptized in the 1950’s. James graduated from Saginaw High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a GPA of 3.5 and also received a Secondary Education Certification from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He later earned a Masters of Arts Degree through an accelerated program in Guidance and Counseling with a 3.7 GPA. James worked for General Motors, Saginaw County as a Drug Therapist and the Department of Illinois Public Aide as a Caseworker in Chicago, IL. James found his niche’ as an educator at the Buena Vista High School, Saginaw, Carrollton, and Bridgeport Public Schools. To celebrate his heavenly home-going are his children, Michael R. Mitchell and Sheveze (Michael) Anderson, both of Flint, MI, Portlene Jimerson-Hadden, Pontiac, MI; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; parents, Leslie and Lucille Surles; siblings, Carolyn (Archie) Rawlings, Farmington Hills, MI, Vickie (Jim) Stewart, Saginaw, MI, Marcia (Ben) Williams, Auburn Hills, MI, Anita Jackson-Hadden, Atlanta, GA, Jimmie (Karmel) Brown, Hampton, GA; sisters-in-law, Georgia Barkley, Sharon (Lucius) Floyd, Michelle Barkley and Kimberly (John) Bond, all of Saginaw, MI; god-father, Deacon and Mrs. Virgil Walker, Sr.; god-siblings, Rhoda Farrell-Butler and Willie Banks, both of Saginaw, MI; aunts, Barbara McCloud, Leola Wilson, Johnnie Rivers and Bobbie Davis; cousins of note, Bobbie Burton and offspring’s; Vickie Pearce, Frieda (Henry) Chandler and offspring’s, Janet Pruitt and offspring’s, Barbara Burton and offspring’s, Stacy (Reginald) Diggs and Vincent Davis; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Pastor Rodrick Smith, Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Roosevelt Austin, Sr., Rev. James was preceded in death by his wife, Whilemenia Hadden; granddaughter, Crystal Anderson; father Melvin Barkley; dad, James Hadden, Sr.; siblings, Arthur Hadden, Douglas Hadden, Jerome Hadden, Freddie Barkley, Melvin Barkley and Donavan Barkley; grandparents, Cleveland and Lola Mae McCloud, Otis and Florence McCain; cousins, Sharon Surles and Marcus Surles; brother-in-law, Charlie Jackson; five aunts, Josie Hunt, Odessa Barkley, Roberta Skinner, Katherine Taylor, Geraldine Ragland; two uncles, Grover McCloud and Dr. Aaron (Doris) McCloud and special friend, Bob Smothers. The family extends special thanks to Rev. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street. Pastor Rodrick Smith, Pastor and Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Roosevelt Austin, Sr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601.
