Mr. James Henley

On Wednesday, June 13, 2017 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend took his Heavenly flight at the age of 87 years, following a brief illness. Deacon James Henley was born July 6, 1929 in Memphis, TN to the late Dan and Rose (Jackson) Henley. James fell in love with his sweetheart, the love of his life, Annie Morris also known as “Cake”, who he called his sweet tooth. They were married July 9, 1955 and she kept her promise, “until death do us part” for 61 years. Deacon Henley migrated to Michigan from Memphis, TN in 1955 searching for employment. He was hired with General Motors in 1955, was a member of UAW Local 668 and retired after 44 years of service. He was a Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged. He loved spending quality time with his family, grandchildren and friends and also loved reading his bible in his favorite recliner. Deacon Henley was a lifelong member of World Outreach Campus in Saginaw, MI (formerly Coleman Temple COGIC) where he served under the late Dr. Hurley Coleman, Sr. He served on the Deacon Board, was a member of the Male Chorus, was an active Sunday School member, helped with the church maintenance and was a grounds keeper. Deacon Henley leaves to cherish his memory, devoted wife of 61 years, Annie Henley of Saginaw, MI; his children, three sons, Fredrick Henley, Roddie (Charlotte) Henley and Robert (Helen) Henley; one daughter, Minister Ora Lee Bryant of California; one brother, Dan Henley, Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Nikete (Jamie) Triplett, Fred Henley, Jr., Thomas Henley, Terrance Pendleton, Caressa (Judge Manvel) Trice III, Steve Castillo, Roddie Henley, Jr., Omar Sangster, Davora (Barry) Renfro, Anthony (Tina) Mayon, Nicole Mayon and Jennifred Brown; a host of great-grands; three sisters-in-law, Savanah Caffie, Brundidge, AL, Angnes Bond and Janie Coston; one brother-in-law, Willie (Della) Morris; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Deacon Joshua Hughes, Lenna Jennings, Pam Henley, Pastor Hurley J. and First Lady Sandra Coleman, Jr., and the World Outreach Campus family. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerome Henley and Herbert White; two daughters, Easter White and Helen White; five sisters and one brother. The family would like to express a special thanks to Covenant Healthcare ICU 6th floor staff for their excellent care. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at World Outreach Campus, 2405 Bay Road. Pastor Hurley Coleman, Jr. will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m.
