Ms. Jerelean Goins

Jerelean Goins, age 81 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 7, 2020. Jerelean Camel was born on April 1, 1938 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama the daughter of the late Laura Camel and John Earl Jones. She graduated from Druid High School in Tuscaloosa, AL, moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Ohio and finally settled in Saginaw, Michigan in 1963. Jerelean was employed as an intake worker for the Department of Social Services. In 1984 graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She later taught at Ruben Daniels Lifelong Learning Center before an injury forced her to retire. Mrs. Goins loved her family and was a loyal friend to many. She spent most of her life taking care of others; from her grandchildren to her parents. She loved crocheting and her hands were rarely still. She enjoyed playing bingo, housekeeping and cooking the best big soul food meals, cakes and pies for family and friends. Jerelean enjoyed life and had a wonderful sense of humor. Jerelean leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Cleveland Martin, Jr., Saulte Ste. Marie, MI; one grandson, Clevevonte Martin, Detroit, MI; three granddaughters, Nikenya Nelson, Saginaw, MI, who she loved dearly and raised as a daughter, LaShonda Martin and Kiara Martin, Detroit, MI; two grandsons, Tredis and Kentrell O’Daniels both of Saginaw, MI; two great-grandsons, Stanley and Deon Brazil; two sisters, Dr. Sallie Brodus, Springdale, MD and Winifred Thomas, South Los Angeles, CA; three nieces, Dr. Dawn Brodus-Yougha (Edmond), Springdale, MD, Whittney Brodus (Gregory Willis), Saginaw, MI and Dr. Melanie McCoy, Upper Marlboro, MD; one nephew, Lorenzo Brodus, Springdale, MD; a god-son, Kelviohn Johnson, Saginaw, MI; god-daughters, Devett Dent and Sherry Pought; a special cousin, Carnell Moore (Mary), Atlanta, GA; many other relatives and friends including special friends Linnie M. Dent, Marie White, Ernestine Jones and Melernese Nunn, all of Saginaw, MI. Jerelean was preceded in death by her father, John Earl Jones; her mother, Laura Camel; brother, Nathaniel Jones and sister, Annie Lee Cady. The family would like to express special thanks to Drs. Roma Srivastava, Mohd Shaffi Kanjwal and Altamash Amin and the staff of Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, 7th floor Trauma-Intensive Care Unit. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020 at New Birth Missionary Baptist Cathedral, 3121 Sheridan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Larry Camel will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue 48601. No public viewing.
