Mr. Jermaine Bernard Mathis

Mr. Jermaine Barnard Mathis passed away suddenly on October 7th 2023 at the age of 39 years. He was born July 30, 1984 in Carrollton, Michigan to mother, Tami K Houston and father, Dwayne R Mickens. Jermaine attended Carrollton Public Schools during his elementary and some junior high years. He then moved to Buena Vista Township and attended Rucker Junior High. He attended Arthur Hill High School where he played on the basketball ball team and received the nick name “Jrock”. He graduated from Bridgeport High School. Jermaine during his high school and college years loved to wear all types of jerseys of teams he liked especially the Boston Celtics so, his nickname became “Throwback” by all who knew him. Mr. Mathis was a devoted father and a cherished friend who was known for his unwavering kindness, and infectious laughter. He had the ability to make everyone in his presence feel special. He had a passion for family, sports, and traveling. He would say, “You only live once so live life to the fullest”. Jermaine is survived by his three children Jamir Mathis, Justice Carter, and Jaslynn Mathis all of Georgia, they were the joy of his life; his mother, Tami K Houston, San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Dwayne R. Mathis, Saginaw, MI, Domonic J. Houston, San Antonio, Texas and Jared Brandt, Bay City, MI; host of aunts and a special aunt, Demetrius Hill; godmother, Whitney Brodus; he is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews including special niece, Tamia K Houston and special nephew, Dwayne Mathis III; a host of cousins including special cousins, Tashay Banks, Tamiya Jolley, Clifford Mathis, Willis Mickens, Kiana Jenkins and Anthony Mathis; other relatives and special friends dear to his heart, Marcus Coston, Coatis Jones, Jason Hayes, Steven Whitson, Julie, Justin Hughes and Larry (Nook). Jermaine Bernard Mathis was preceded in death by his father Dwayne R Mickens; grandparents and other relatives. Jermaine will be missed but never forgotten by all who knew and loved him Funeral service will take place on Friday, October 27, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2403 E. Remington St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Murry Culberson, Host Pastor and Pastor James Hodge will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
