Mr. John Chaffer

John Chaffer Jr. was born to John Chaffer Sr. and Severine Metoyer on July 1, 1942 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1961 and earned his Associate’s Degree as a Tool Maker from Delta College in 1991. John retired from Eaton Corporation after over 30 years of service as a Tool and Die Maker. He was a man of many talents. Not only was he a Tool and Die Maker by trade, but he was also a Plumber, Electrician, Carpenter, Automotive genius, and Artist. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. John’s favorite place was Idlewild, Michigan and he was instrumental in revitalizing Idlewild. He served as the Building Committee Chairperson of the Mid-Michigan Idlewilders Club. John was a very talented Artist. He could draw everything from family portraits, to carpentry, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, and automotive ideas. He loved to travel, play cards, golf, dance, and occasionally make casino runs. He loved family and being surrounded by them. Mr. John Chaffer Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lucille Marie Chaffer of Saginaw, MI and children Dante Anthony Chaffer of Evart, MI, Marlana Kaye (Shawn) Guerrero of Atlanta, GA and Courtney Nikell Chaffer of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren Eric Chaffer of Seattle, WA, Aaron (Christine) Chaffer of Oregon, DeAnte’ (Rachel) Toins of Winder, GA, Jonathan (Jessica) Fox of Texas, Nickelle Chaffer of Atlanta, GA, Austin Miller of Saginaw, MI, Michael (Keyerra) Battle Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA, Mercedes Chaffer of Tucker, GA, John (Alyssa) Chaffer of Bay City, MI, Kynedi Weans of Nashville, TN; brothers and sisters Christopher (Idell) Chaffer of Saginaw, MI, David Chaffer of Saginaw, MI, Michael (Cynthia) Chaffer, of Saginaw, MI, Billie Sue Chaffer of Taylor, MI; closest brothers/friends Mark (Gennetta) Thomas II of Idlewild, MI, Robert (Pauline) Thomas of Lawrenceville, GA, Rowena Taylor of Indianapolis, IN, Florence and Ernie Harris of Idlewild, MI; Godchildren Brittany Genwright of Pontiac, MI, Michael Davis of Hapeville, GA; Jonathon Townsend of Duluth, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Severine Chaffer Sr.; brothers and sisters Alvin Chaffer, Morris Chaffer, Daniel Chaffer, Ruth Johnson, Frances Porter; in-laws Mark and Annie Mae Thomas Sr., Marvin “Butch” Thomas, Annie Lee Thomas; special sister Zoetta Davis; goddaughter Cynthia Davis Townsend. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at New Christ Community Church, 3302 Grant Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Asst. Pastor Audrey Parker will officiate with interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 7475 Holland Road, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
