Mr. Johnnie Brown

Mr. Johnnie Lee Brown, age 91 years passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving wife, Donella Brown at his side. He was born in Plain Dealing, Bossier Parish, Louisiana to the late John Lewis Brown and the late Rodessia Jackson Brown on October 4, 1931. He enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1947. Mr. Brown moved to Saginaw, Michigan and was employed at the GM Metal Casting Plant until his retirement after 27 years. Mr. Johnnie Brown became a widower in 1994 after losing his beloved wife, Claudell Brown. To that union, he adopted Ginger Brown McKinney (Maurice) of Saginaw, MI. He was a grandfather and great-grandfather to Andrea McKinney and Allen Taylor of Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Johnnie Lee Brown was a dedicated lifetime member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, walking out his service in many auxiliary capacities. To name a few, he was a stalwart servant with the Usher Board for many years serving as “Chief Usher” at one time. He was active in the Layman’s group, gathering with younger men of the church. Mr. Johnnie Brown will truly be missed by a nephew; three nieces; a cousin and longtime friends. Special mention to nephew, Ricky Brown of Texas, Jackie Halliburton of Las Vegas, NV, Janet Brown Johnson and Dona Morgan Johnson, both of Texas. He is also survived by a special cousin, L.V. Means of Detroit, MI and a sister-in-law, Helen Brown of Texas. He found brotherhood in many, but Jerome Weathers, Major Brown and Charles Byrd, all of Saginaw, MI actively supported him in his twilight years. Mr. Johnnie Lee Brown was also preceded in death by four brothers, Levan, Booker T. and Gene Brown, and Calvin Salone (adopted). Mr. Johnnie Brown transitioned from this life four days before his wife, Donella, however; Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital honored their devotion for each other and allowed them to be in the same room on December 31, 2022. The family would like to acknowledge the kindness of Ascension St. Mary’s 6th floor ICU and 5 South staff. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, January 16, 2023, at Truevine Baptist Missionary Church, 2930 Janes St., Saginaw, MI. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Paul E. Broaddus officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442.
