Mr. Johnnie James Thompkins

Our beloved husband, father, granddad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Mr. Johnnie James Thompkins went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2023 at the age of 74 years. Johnnie was born November 16, 1948 to J.T. and Pearlie (Jasper) Thompkins in Union Springs, Alabama. Johnnie known to everyone as “Twolou” was a resident in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended schools in Union Springs, Alabama. He turned his life over to Christ at a young age at Emmanual Church of Deliverance under the leadership of the late Pastors Provis and Fannie Carter. Pastors Provis and Fannie Carter, joined Johnnie and Esther Burton in Holy Matrimony on February 14, 1988 in their home, and they were blessed. “Twolou” enjoyed fishing, playing cards and dominos. His other hobbies were working on cars, doing yard work, moving people, taking people around and spending time with family and friends. Johnny enjoyed watching wrestling, western movies and game shows. Mr. Johnnie James leaves to cherish many memories, his wife, Esther Thompkins of Saginaw, MI; eight children, Michael (LaSonya) Calhoun, Bobby Thompkins, Johnny Browdy, John John Thompkins, Johnny (Charlisa) (Burton) Thompkins, Terrell and Terry Thompkins and Dequadre Baker; grandchildren, Letecia G-Ausse, Diamond Diaz, Michael Calhoun, NaTasha Phillips, Ava Thompkins, Mogwli Luna and Raven Calhoun; siblings, Fannie Thompkins of Saginaw, MI, Gloria Russell, Walter, Tommy and Pricilla Thompkins, all of Union Spring, AL; sisters & brothers-in-law, Ethel Dugan, John Burton, Mary (Floyd) Broadnax, Gladys Hines, Mable (Johnny) Cage, Vincent Burton, Leonard Thomas and Gail Crittendon; god-children, Denise and Mattie Williams, ShaMalachi McKinney, RaeLynn Reis and Xavier Rivera-McKinney, other relatives and friends. Mr. Thompkins was preceded in death by his parents, J. T. Thompkins and Pearlie Thompkins; daughter, Elizabeth Thompkins; brother, J.T. Thompkins; sister, Sarah Pritchett; mother-in-law, Lucille (Burton) Sutton; sisters & brothers-in-law, Johnnie Mae Davis, Mellie Thomas and Abbott and Diane Burton and Charles Crittendon; god-son, Domonic McKinney Rivera; god-parents, Nathan and Willie Mae Perkins; cousins, Pastor Mattie Lou Works, Clinton Jimmy Works and Vera Wyatt and special friend, Lonnie (Boone) Miree The Thompkins family would like to thank Marlon McKinney and Kayla Patrick for their care, American Home Care Hospice Nurse, Dana Matthew LPN, Eva Dafoe and Crystal Louis, Bath Aide for Assisting in his care, Dr. Farrukh Anwar and Phyllis Scarbrough. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Emmanuel Church of Deliverance, 1709 Janes Ave., Saginaw, MI. Pastor Alfonzo Thomas will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601.
