Johnny Cook

Cook, Mr. Johnny Lee Saginaw, Michigan. The celebration of live will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2005 at the Victorious Believers Ministries C.O.G.I.C., 624 S. Outer Drive. Bishop Marvin C. Pryor will officiate with interment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 7475 East Holland Road. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. A beautiful life migrated on August 19, 2005 when Mr. Johnny Lee Cook fell asleep. He was tired and worn when God decided it was time for a peaceful rest. Johnny was born November 16, 1930 in Calhoun, Ala., the third of eighteen siblings born to Mack and Ella Mae Cook. He met and married Arthurine Timmons. She preceded him in death. To this union, seven children were born: Robert L. Cook of Escanaba, Mich., Jeanette (Jim) Lucky of Greenville, Ala., Johnny Cook, Jr., Ann (Dwayne) Chavis, Bernard Timmons, all of Detroit, Mich., Mary Jean Jackson of Gary, Ind, and Eddie Cook. Johnny relocated from Calhoun, Ala. to Saginaw, Mich. where he was employed by General Motors at the Malleable Iron Foundry. He retired after 16 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 455. On November 16, 1993, he married Elaine Richardson. To this union, six children were born: Skip, Monnie and Tiffany Richardson of Saginaw, Mich., Trameka (Will) Rodgers and Jason and Terrence Richardson of Oakland, Calif. He became a born-again Christian in March 2005 and served the Lord faithfully until God deceded it was time for rest. He was a member of Victorious Believers Ministries Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Marvin C. Pryor. Mr. Cook was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. No one could catch or bring home more or larger game than him. He also enjoyed all sports, with special interest in baseball and basketball. Johnny believed if the Golden State Warriors would accept his expertise in coaching, the team would be champions. He lived life to its fullest and believed he could conquer any task put before him. He was strong, independent, loved people, young and old and was giving. If Johnny had one dollar, he would give half away. Besides his devoted wife and children, he leaves to commemorate his life 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; nine sisters, Mildred (Curtis) Gooding, Venera Dabney, Julia (Eugene) McGill, Maggie (Mark) Davis of Montgomery, Ala., Elenore (Clinton) Thomas of Calhoun, Ala., Cherry Dixon, Ann, Elizabeth and Alline Cook, all of Hempstead, NY; six brothers, Arthur (Margaret) Hayes, Roland (Mary) Cook, Mac (Ada) Cook, all of Saginaw, Mich., Fred (Hazel) Cook of Cleveland, Ohio, Erye Cook of Montgomery, Ala., Leroy (Jerelene) Cook of Largo, Maryland; one aunt, Minnie Sledge of Buffalo, New York; one uncle, Tom (Helen) Patterson of Chicago, Ill.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eddie Cook; grandson, Alfonzo Jackson; brothers, Cleveland and Willie Cook. A special thanks to Dr. Gary Brooks and staff, Virginia Rowland and infusion team at Covenant-Cooper, Bishop and Mrs. Pryor and the VBM Church, Hospice and the Visiting Nurses Association.
