Ms. Judith Kay Moore

Ms. Judith “Judy” Kay Moore went to join her Heavenly Father and a host of welcoming loved ones with family at her side on August 8, 2022, after a sudden illness, at the age of 80 years. This earthly life for Judy began on August 23, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was the last of eight children born to Charlie and Ronnie B. Moore. In this large family Judy learned the value of togetherness and devotion to family and God. This served her for the remainder of her life. Judy attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High in 1959. She went on to further her education at Hesston College in Wichita (now Hesston), Kansas. On September 16, 1965, Judy began her career in recreation with the City of Saginaw in the Parks and Recreation Department. She held various positions, but her focus was always on children. She will be remembered as supervisor of Harry Browne, Audra Francis Recreational Centers, and Merril Park Recreational Center. Under her supervision at Merrill Park Judy started an “After School Program” in addition to the recreational program. During summer months she supervised Germaine Park and Vets Parks, and Houghton Elementary Park. As a supervisor of the City’s memorable summer programs, Judy was able to extend her reach to many more children. After a fulfilling and rewarding career entirely with the City, Judy retired from the City of Saginaw on March 1, 1988, having achieved the status of Supervisor III. Judy grew up in a home where the emphasis was placed on family, education, and church. She was baptized at an early age at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Judy was a very engaging Christian woman who used her time and talents as a Sunday School Teacher. She would often be called upon to serve as mistress of ceremony and to speak on many occasions. On Sunday, August 21, 1983, Judy moved her church membership to Greater Renaissance Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother-in-law, the late Pastor Nathaniel Calhoun. There she continued her service; she was most active as a Sunday School Teacher, and a Missionary. Outside of her job and church, Judy found time for bowling. She was an avid bowler (following in her older brother Will’s footsteps), they both competed in local and regional tournaments. She found immense joy and comfort from the hymns, “It is Well” and ” I Surrender All”. In her retiring years, she found solace in reading her Bible and listening to gospel music on television. Ms. Judith Kay Moore leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Bernice Dorsey and Mattie Calhoun both of Saginaw, Michigan; a brother, Joseph (Betty) Moore of Detroit, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Sarah K. Moore of Detroit, MI; a special “sister/niece”, Cheryl D. Moore of Saginaw; two special nephews, Ralph Martin (like a son) of Saginaw, and Corey (Zekeyva) Moore, of Crossroads, TX; goddaughter, Janel Arnette of Saginaw; a lifelong friend, Inez Renfro of Cleveland, OH; special friend, Geraldine Draine of Saginaw; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ronnie B. Moore; three brothers, Jeff, James and William Moore and a special sister, Carrie Martin. The family wishes to express special thanks to Covenant Health Emergency Room Staff , Dr. Mbabuike, M.D. Neurosurgeon and Neuro Intensive Care Unit Staff of Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, Betty Bibb and Sona Carruth. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m.on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Roy L. Manning will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
