Mrs. Laura Lee Tanner

Mrs. Laura Lee Tanner (Cookie) was born March 19, 1943 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was the first daughter of the late Bennie and Deliah Parker. She answered God’s call to her eternal home on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Laura was educated in the public school system of Vicksburg, Mississippi. She also attended Delta Community College in Saginaw, Michigan in the early 70s. Laura worked for Dow Chemical in Midland, Michigan as a Polymer Technician for 27 years. During her tenure at Dow Chemical, Laura was a Union Stewart for the Local 12075 and, she traveled throughout the United States. She loved to travel with her husband and spend time with her grandchildren. Laura was known for sending care packages with meals while her daughter was in college. She also had a passion for sewing, cooking, and completing word searches. Laura accepted Christ at an early age at Triumph Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi under the leadership of Reverend Bolden. Laura relocated from Vicksburg, Mississippi to Pontiac, Michigan in 1964 and later to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971. On December 14, 1960, Laura married Archie Lee Tanner. To this union, one daughter was born; Dr. Sylvia D. Gholston. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Archie Lee Tanner, her parents Bennie and Deliah Parker, her brother Bennie (Edith) Parker, and her sister Pastors Mary (Joseph) McCall. Laura leaves to cherish many memories: her only daughter Dr. Sylvia (Reginald) Gholston, Sr.; three grandchildren, Reginald (RJ) Gholston, Jr., Quincy Latrell Gholston, and Briana Michelle Gholston; sisters, Carrie (Reverend Cornelius) Johnson, Dorothy (James) Cain, Hattie Parker, Carrol Wilson, Alice Akins, and Verna (Robert) Henry; one, brother, Michael (Glorestine) Parker; brother-in-law, James (Vonnie) Jackson; special cousin, Willie Mae (Murphy) Bryant; special nephew, Alex P. McCall; special friends, Mary Hare, Georganna Williams and Randi Patteen; a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 2233 King Road. Pastor Walter McCall will officiate. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
