Ms. Laura Ann Taylor

Ms. Laura Ann Taylor was born on June 16, 1950 the daughter of Theodore and Ora Lee Taylor in Saginaw, Michigan. She passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the age of 72 years. Laura Ann passed after a recent leg amputation. She was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, and a longtime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, joining when Rev. P. David Saunders was Pastor. During her younger years she was a member of St. Luke C.M.E. Church under the leadership of Pastor O.L. Barr. She enjoyed playing the piano. Growing up she enjoyed playing volleyball and participating in track and field events at the high. She had incredible strength and could jump over fences. She shared her talent as a musician at Grace Chapel Church where Rev. James Nelson serves as Pastor. Laura was a loving, kind person, a servant at heart and she was an excellent cook. She put her heart and soul in everything she cooked. She was fancy, a trait that she carried from her mother. She loved to cater to your soul. She loved cooking pancakes from scratch, paring bread with dip, jello with fruit, salmon patties, biscuits with Alaga syrup and tacos. She fixed pies and cakes, and the list just goes on and on. Her routines were to live for, coffee and the news. Young and the restless, then the View. Laura read the Daily Bread, then 3 chapters of scripture. She was very proud of her family. Laura was a graduate of Saginaw High School “Class of 1968 Trojans”. She married Charles T. Porter fresh out of high school, during this time she was employed at Dow Chemical and attending Delta College. Soon after she began a long time career at Saginaw Steering Gear, GM (Delphi) then EDS Division for a combined 25 years. She made lifelong friends while working plus she was on a Friday night bowling league. Ann and girlfriends would eat at local establishments throughout the city while living her best life. After GM outsourced her career, she reemerged with greater strength working for the Saginaw Board of Education (at multiple locations), Ace alarms, Rib Shack with her sister, Delorise and her niece, Samone. During that time she also did private work with Hazel Milam. Over the years she traveled extensively on cruises and shopping trips and family reunions with family and friends. She was a great thinker, a private woman and a community activist. She was Saginaw! She loved that phone, staying connected with her family and friends and being a participant of the progress and uplift of anyone that was down. She had a sharing and caring heart. Laura Ann loved fellowshipping at Grace Chapel, Bethel, First Ward Community Center, and spending quality time with Elijah. Laura Ann was spoiled by her family. Ms. Laura Ann Taylor leaves to cherish many memories, daughter, Detra Charmayne (Porter) Joseph; sister, Delorise Taylor; brother, Harry Taylor; hosts of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; preceding her in death; grandson, Franklin Alexander Joseph; brother, Theodore Taylor, Jr.; mother, Ora Lee (Williams/Bond/Evans) Taylor, father; Theodore Taylor, Sr.; grandparents, Robert and Laura Taylor and Elijah Coates. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. James Nelson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington , Saginaw, MI 48601.
