Lee Owens,

Mr. Lee Alex Owens, Sr. passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at the age of 79 years. He was born February 11, 1933 in Pine Bluff, AR, the son of the late Cornelius and Mary Owens. He attended school in Pine Bluff, AR. He was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Johnny Goodman. Mr. Owens retired from General Motors Grey Iron Foundry after 37 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 668. He loved bowling, driving and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Mr. Owens leaves to cherish his memory, five daughters and three sons, Melinda Owens-James of Memphis, TN and Anthonette Owens of Leesburg, VA, Gwen (Joseph) Miree, Tionette (John) Ingram and Tara Ingram of Saginaw, MI, Mark (Kyla) Blacksher, Lee Owens, Jr., and Cornelius (Shyrita) Owens, all of Saginaw, MI; 29 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; four sisters, Robbie Morgan of Detroit, MI, Mary Alice (Melvin) Pitts of Pine Bluff, AR, Cecelia (Curtis) Mayfield and Linda (Robert) Wright of Omaha, NE; four brothers, Benny (Pam), Robert (Becky) and Sammy of Omaha, NE and James (Arlena) Boose of Saginaw, MI; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousins, Willie Bell, Alma Hoosier and Benny Drumgoole of Saginaw, MI, Dorthy Hawkins of Pine Bluff, AR and Della (Eddie Mae) Dawkins of Little Rock, AR; and many other relatives and friends, including special friends, King David Hawkins, Samuel Jamerson and James Boykins, all of Saginaw, MI and Samuel Wilson of Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Boose; two brothers, J.B. and Henry Boose; one sister, Ellaree Westbrook; stepson, Willie Ross; two aunts, Rosie Scott and Alice Walker; three uncles, Benny, Sammy and Freddie Boose; a special cousin, Emzie Hulett; and a special friend, Lemartis Matthews. The family would like to express very special thanks to Minnie Cooper of Saginaw, MI, who was a special friend and a tremendous help throughout everything and special thanks to Heartland Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice of Saginaw, MI, the Saginaw County Commission on Aging and the Lighthouse of Glory under the leadership of Pastor Bertha Goodman. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Zion Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 517 Carlisle Street. Pastor John Rincher will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
