Mr. Leon "Boss Hogg" Choyce

Leon Choyce was born May 21, 1954 to Gillis and Ida Mae Choyce in Saginaw, Michigan. He passed away April 13, 2021 in Saginaw after a lengthy illness at the age of 66 years. Mr. Choyce was well known and loved for his slogans, slick rhyme talk and his comic attitude. The love of his life were his daughters and family. Mr. Choyce was a faithful member of New Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. He loved to cook and eat home cooked meals. He also loved the Bernie Mac and Cedrick the Entertainer comedy shows. Leon loved listening to his music, especially blues and R&B. He was a sharp dresser when it came time to step out. He always made time for his daughters and encouraged us at a very early age that we were, “pretty black girls” preparing us for this world that tried to tell us black wasn’t beautiful. He planted seeds that have now been rooted for us to pass along to our children and he will always be cherished for that. He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters, Tanya (Manuel) Williams, Demonia Box, Leona Long and Latonya Bentley; five step-children, Laura (Rick), Richard Long (Katt), Melva (Champaign), Loraine and Lenore; four brothers, John, James, Jerry (Faye) and Larry Choyce; five sisters, Shirley, Mable, Dora Mae, Louise and Diane (Oliver); 23 grandchildren, Vincent Barney, Zamarria, , Natasha, Vontrael, Tela, Kela, Davonte’ Box (Briana), Keyon Addison (Edeana), Antazi’ona, Nia, Derek and others; 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong special friend, Curtis Smith; other relatives and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Gillis and Ida Mae (Reed) Choyce; one brother, Victor; two granddaughters, Lela and Valencia; one grandson, Matthew; two great-grandsons, Mike and MyKeem; two special friends, Ethel and Annette; one nephew, Kenny Choyce and his god-daughter, Lakeshia Box. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Obed Thompson will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place Monday, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48607.
