Ms. Leslie Margo Sherrod

Leslie Margo Sherrod was born in Saginaw, Michigan a lovely daughter of George and Julia (Facen) Sherrod, Sr. on July 17, 1969. She passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the age of 53 years. At the age of seven, Leslie was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in 1976 by Pastor Roosevelt Mosley and became a part of the children’s ministry. She later was affiliated with the St. Luke C.M.E. Church in Saginaw, MI, Children’s Cherub Choir and the Jr. Stewardess Board; Faith Harvest Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronald Chipp, and St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Vincent D. McMillion. She attended elementary, junior high and high school in the Buena Vista School District graduating in the “Class of 1987” as a member of The National Honor Society. During her youth she was a member of the Girl Scouts. In high school she was a member of the Xinos Youth Group of Phi Delta Kappa. Later she became an honorary member of Gila River Indian Community in Arizona. Leslie attended Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI, and Lawson State Community College, Birmingham, AL receiving her Licensed Practical Nurse Certification. She then attended Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University, Saginaw, MI and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree in 2010. She passed the Michigan State Boards and received a Registered Nurse License in 2010. During high school her first job was at Burlington’s Coat Factory in Buena Vista Township and her next job was a License Practical Nurse in Ypsilanti, MI. She was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital for 15 plus years in the Telemetry Department, Saginaw County Health Department’s Visiting Nurses Association in the areas of visiting pregnant adolescents, food & nutrition, counseling and assisting parents that experienced SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). She also was an instructor at Latoya’s School of Nursing in Saginaw, as an instructor at Dorsey as Certified Assistant Nurse School of Nursing in Bay City, MI. She began travel nursing which took her across the United States of America: the Upper Peninsula Medical Center in Marquette, MI, Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI, Detroit Medical Center, Havenwyck Hospital, Auburn Hills, MI, Select Specialty, Battle Creek, MI and Spectrum Healthcare, Pontiac, MI. Her travels also took her to the States of Texas, California, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Wisconsin and The Gila River Indian Community Hospital of Arizona. Health issues were the only reason she could not continue in this capacity. She worked valiantly throughout the COVID Pandemic that began in 2020 although she never contracted it. Gone to soon. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to cook everything. Our family favorite were her oxtails. Her favorite cooking show was, “Guy Fieri/Diners-Drive-Ins” and “Dives”. She also liked to watch “Martin”, “A Different World” and “The Wendy Williams Show”. Her favorite movie; “Coming To America”, her favorite music was 70’s and 80’s Soul Music. She enjoyed traveling for pleasure, especially to New York to shop. Leslie was a stylish dresser. Her hair, make up and nails were always done. Ms. Leslie Margo Sherrod leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted fiancé, Mr. Byron Bridgeman of Saginaw, MI; mother, Julia P. Sherrod; stepchildren, Kahfee King, MD, Grenada, Marcus and Maurice Bridgeman, both of Saginaw and Whitnee Bridgeman of Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Doreen (Calvin) Walton, Jr. of Saginaw, MI and Barbara LaVon Sherrod of Lansing, MI; brother, George Sherrod, Jr. of Opelika, AL; nieces, Adrienne N. Walton of Little Rock, AR, Sharde` D. Walton of Beaverton, OR and Shonte` R. Walton of Nashville, TN; nephews, Vincent T. (Ashley) Walton of Quincy, FL, Cordell (Chastity) Sherrod of St. Cloud, MN and Marcus Sherrod of Birmingham, AL; great-nephew, Jylen R. Walton of Houston, TX ; great-niece, McKenzie Hannibal-Walton of Fort Worth, TX; god-parents, Mattie Johnson and Delores Carter, both of Saginaw; god-sisters, JoAnn Johnson of Detroit, MI and Dana Clement of Saginaw, MI; a goddaughter, Maya Mikulski of Detroit, MI, the Walton, Tate, and Bridgeman families; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Caroline Young and Regina Phillips, both of Saginaw, MI, Ashley Smith of Fort Wayne IN and Kasia Mikulski of Detroit, MI. Leslie was preceded in death by an infant son, Trevion Caleb Sherrod; father, George Sherrod, Sr; an infant brother, Vincent R. Sherrod; grandparents, Eddie and Thelma Sherrod and Joe and Mattie Facen; nephew, Corey M. Walton and god-parents, Rev. Willie and Amy Scott. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Visitation will take place on Monday at the funeral home from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.
