Mrs. Lillie Mabry Swan

Lillie Pearl (Mabry) Swan, the fourth of five children born to Magnolia Oliver and Cardis Mabry on November 14, 1929, in Panola, Alabama. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Valley Baptist Church of Panola, Alabama, under Reverend Zion Silas Grice, Pastor. She graduated from North Sumter High School on May 16, 1947. She attended Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama for two years and Alabama State in Montgomery, Alabama one semester. She met Hoover Swan, and they were united in matrimony on April 10, 1948. They moved to Bessemer, Alabama and joined Antioch Baptist Church under Pastor R.L. Starkey where she served the Music Ministry and the Sunday School Department. They moved to Saginaw, Michigan on February 17, 1966, where Lillie returned to school and earned her B.A. degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She continued her education and received her M.A. degree from Central Michigan University. Lillie taught Elementary School for five years in Alabama and twenty-five years in Michigan. Lillie joined Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in 1990. She was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Club, the Mass Choir, and the voices of Tabernacle Choir. She also taught Sunday School as well as Missions, faithfully since 1996. Seven children were born to Lillie and Hoover Swan: Milton Hoover Swan of Fife, Washington; Rita Diann Swan of Allen, Texas; Kerry Tyrone Swan of Saginaw, Michigan; Gregory Wayne Swan of Kent, Washington; Dr. Jeffrey Anthony Swan (Rochelle Swan) of Martinsburg, West Virginia; Kimberly Yvonne Swan, Dayton, Ohio; Dionne Latrice Swan, Saginaw, Michigan. Preceded Lillie in death: Cardis Mabry (father), Magnolia Oliver Speights (mother), Mattie, Annie, and Oranger (sisters), Howard (brother), and Hoover Swan (husband). Lillie leaves to mourn all seven of her lovely children, daughter-in-law Rochelle E. Swan, seven grandchildren: Sterling Nelson (Vonnie), Shontel Beasley, Takira J. Swan, Kenneth L. Swan (DeAna Maria), Kevin D. Swan, Kerrington R. Swan (Ma'kyla), Greg Minor (Mistie), twelve great-grandchildren: Darius Lake, Chaun'terria Watson, DaMazia Gaines, Terrianna Pippins, Andre Williams Jr., Kingston Swan, Ma'Ki Swan, Ki'Air Swan, Kaelyn Swan, Alayna Swan, Nevaeh Lillian Rose Minor, Jeremiah Anthony Minor, two great-great-grandchildren: Terrion Young, Dakota Charles, two sisters-in-law: Elvira Montgomery, and Frances Harris, brother-in-law Joe Connie Harris, two nieces: Sherrell Shepard, Barbara Smith, four nephews: Howard Mabry Jr., Ronald Shepard, Terrell Shepard, James Shepard and a host of relatives and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Brookdale Memory Care and Ms. Rosa Holliday for their patience, love, and dedication to our mother during her final days. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 810 Cathay Street, Saginaw, MI 48601with funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Blake D. Strozier will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
