Mrs. Lizzie Pearl Echols

Lizzie Pearl (Patrick) Echols was born June 8, 1934 in Opelika, Alabama the daughter of James Patrick and Josie (Chisolm) Patrick. She passed away on November 11, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Lizzie Pearl was unique and blessed to have two birthdays, June 7, and June 8. Of course, both were celebrated by family and friends. Mrs. Echols became a resident of Saginaw, Michigan 67 years ago. She enjoyed her career of teaching in the Saginaw Public School System, was a member of the Lioness Club, First Ward Old Timers’ Club, and the Christian Neighborhood Club. She was a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Bowman Gospel Chorus, the Usher Board, the Missionary Department, other clubs and organizations. She loved her church family. Lizzie was the life of the party, she loved to dance and go to the Casino with family and friends. She loved to cook and was famous for her fried pies and peach cobbler. She touched many lives with her acts of kindness and would give her last to those in need. Lizzie will truly be missed by her family and those whose lives she touched. Mrs. Echols leaves to cherish many memories, her two sons, Leo S. (Sonya) Echols, Jr., and Filmon G. Echols; one daughter, Peggy Jean Echols and ten grandchildren, Ronell Echols, Ebony (Terry) Randolph , Jermaine Echols, Sharonda (Santino) Rios, Hammond, LA, Quiana Echols and Jalisa Burnside, all of Saginaw and Melissa Echols of Redford, MI, and DeArthur Burnside, of Houston, TX, Keith Chapman (step), Detroit, MI and Tequioa Anderson (step), Atlanta, GA. Lizzie loved all of her 22 great-grandchildren and her grands the same but, she had a special bond with Amir Shawn Burnside, she called him her “Little Man”. She also leaves one brother, Kenneth (Ann) Patrick; one god-daughter, Roslyn Frazier; three sisters-in-law, Annie Echols, Doris Echols and Dorothy Patrick; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, too many to name but not forgotten, many other relatives and friends including special friends, Martha McBrayer,. Dorothy Lewis, Annie Jackson, Liz Gardner, Dorothy Wells, Marie Matthews, Ruthie Jefferson, the Macon family, the Grays Brothers, special daughter, Carla Jordan, Arthur Burnside, Jr., Rose Conway, B.L. Little and family, Lillie Strong and many more, too many to name but not forgotten. Mrs. Echols was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband, Leo S. Echols, Sr.; one daughter, Sheryl D. Green; a great-grandchild, Jordan Echols; five brothers, Eddie, Johnny, Charles, Walter, Willie Patrick and many good friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Bethel AME Church and Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 535 Cathay St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Dennis Laffoon with officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
