Mr. Lonza "Lonny" Simpson

On Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:35 AM our beloved Lonza Lee "Lonny” Simpson entered into eternal rest. He was born the fourth of five children to Alonzo and Viola Simpson on March 3, 1936 in Parkins, Arkansas. His family moved to Saginaw when he was a young child and he attended Central Jr. High School and graduated from Saginaw High School, “Class of 1955”. He continued his education before becoming employed at Saginaw Steering Gear, where he had served as a supervisor, retiring in 2009 after fifty-two years of service. Lonny was a long-time devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he enjoyed serving with the Cup of Water and Church Security Ministries. “Lonny” fell in love with Diana Ruth Parker and they were married on January 23, 1965 in Saginaw, MI, she survives him. He loved manicuring his yard and took pride in sitting back and admiring the end results, especially the beautiful flowers. Lonnie was a great bowler and enjoyed fishing trips, especially with his longtime neighbors and friends, the Thompson and Lowery families. “Lonny’s” commitment toward his family was genuine. He was a fantastic cook and his recipe for peach cobbler…was a blending of the love, affection and pride he had for his family. “Lonny” leaves to cherish precious memories his devoted wife, Diana; his loving and caring children, Ynette Diana, Batenia LaMott, Hillary and Lonny Simpson; a host of nieces and nephews, one sister in-law, Francis Ward; three brothers-in-law, Henry Parker, Jr., Don (Mary) Parker, and Ray (Barbara) Parker; many cousins and dear friends including, Doug Lane and Alex Farrell, Jr. “Lonny” was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Viola Simpson; four siblings, Mary Ramsey, Jack Simpson, Emma Faye Simpson and Margaret Sherley. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Bethel A. M. E. Church, 535 Cathay Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
