Mr. Lucius "Sugar Boy" Floyd

Lucius (Sugar Boy, Papa Lu) Floyd was born May 15, 1932 to Queenie Floyd (Buddy) Wooten and George Gaymon in Bishopville, South Carolina. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Lucius was an entrepreneur in the 1960’s owning and operating a Clark Gas Station. This endeavor laid the foundation for his lawncare business until his health would no longer allow him to continue. He was gainfully employed as a machine operator for over 38 years at Saginaw Steering Gear Division of General Motors Corporation and a member of UAW Local #699. He loved fellowshipping with family and friends, as evidenced by his faithful attendance at the Marie Davis Senior Citizens Center. He united with the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in the 1940’s, serving as a member of the Senior Usher Board. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 37 years, Sharon M. Wilson Floyd; his children, Shirley Ann Floyd, Indianapolis, IN, Tenisha Dillard, Saginaw, MI and a son he raised, Melvin P. (Juanae’) Barkley, Naperville, IL; four grandchildren, Dina Ford, Dena Lewis, De’Ara Jackson and Christian S. Barkley; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn P. Wilson; goddaughters, Shaneditha L. Butler, LaGrange, GA and Alliecia L. Butler, Charlotte, NC. He was blessed to have special caregivers, his nephew, Walter “Pookie” (Dorothy) Harris ; niece, Kim “Candy” Rogers; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He also leaves to cherish his memory many special friends including Philip Drake (a kind neighbor), Joe Wyatt, Douglas Lane, Dr. and Mrs. Marvin T. Smith and the entire Mt. Olive Church family. Lucius was preceded in death by his parents, Queenie Floyd Wooten and George Gaymon; two brothers, James and J.B. Floyd; four sisters, Lillie Mae Harris, Mary-Sue Floyd, Mae-Ella Stewart and Johnnie Mae Wooten; father-and mother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. J.P. Wilson. Family Hour will take place at 10:30 a.m. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 N. 6th St., Saginaw, MI 48601. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.
