Mr. Luther Petty Jr.

Mr. Luther Petty, Jr. was born on September 1, 1948 in Ozark, Alabama the son of Luther Petty, Sr. and Betty (Shipman) Petty. He passed away on July 27, 2023 at the age of 74 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He attended D. A. Smith High School in Ozark and graduated in 1966. He completed one year of studies at Selma University before relocating to Saginaw, Michigan where he became employed for Saginaw Metal Casting Plant, General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local 668. He retired with 30 plus years of loyal service. Mr. Petty was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church-Saginaw. Luther loved watching horse racing, basketball and, football was his favorite. His passion was BBQing outside. He loved the fresh air; he enjoyed taking walks, he often walked “The Hill” at the Buena Vista Center. Luther enjoyed music, loved his family and always voiced his opinion when necessary. Luther leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 52 years, Becky Ann (Hollis) Petty, Saginaw, MI; daughter, Lacretia “Lady” (Darrell) Usher, Conyers, GA; three grandson, Brennen, Ashtin and Dru Usher all of Conyers, GA; sister, Jennifer Petty Jackson, Saginaw, MI; two brothers, Vince (Lestine) Petty and Mark Petty, Saginaw; aunt, Bessie (Herman) Baxter, Slocomb, AL; uncle, Royal Holley, Saginaw; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousins, Diana-Shipman Flentory, Ozark, AL, Josie Paige, Whitsett, NC, Joe (Vivian) Howard, Jr., Saginaw; sisters-in-law, Peggie (Hinton) Lucas II, D. Sharese Terry and Renea Hollis; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Daniel P. (Maggie) Mack, Regimond (Shender) McKinney, Gracie Witherspoon and Sidney (Kermitt) Diggs; his bonus family, Jamal Q. Smith and Willie Barnes; his prayer warriors, Ella Carter, Barbara Williams-Sane and Wanneka Fair. Mr. Luther Petty, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Luther (Lucille) Petty, Sr. and Betty (I.V.) Bradley; sisters, Mary Jean Strickland and Vicki Staton; father and mother-in-law, Emmitt and Emma (Holley) Hollis; four brothers-in-law, Thomas (Alice) Hollis, Deronnie, Clayton Charles and Harland Cecil Hollis The family would like to express special thanks to Bethel A.M.E. Church-Saginaw, Victorious Believers Ministries Saginaw, Cultivation Church, Conyers, GA, Marty Northern and Gabby of Compassus Hospice Care. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Rev. P. David Saunders will officiate. Interment will take place in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 7475 E. Holland Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
