Mrs. Mabel Marie Holloway

Mrs. Mable Marie Holloway passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at her residence at the age of 88 years, surrounded by her loving daughters. Mabel was born October 27, 1932 in Paducah, Kentucky to Walter and Sarah (Jackson) Shelton. She moved to Michigan in 1955 where she met and married Burton Holloway, Sr., he preceded her in death. She attended Saginaw Valley State University where she received both her Bachelor and Master Degrees. Mabel was employed at First Ward Community Center, OIC of Saginaw, Our Lady Help of Christian and later with Buena Vista School District where she retired in 1994. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Vincent D. McMillon where she was a faithful member until her health failed. Mabel was a PROUD Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter. To say that she LOVED her sorority and everything it stood for would be an understatement. Mabel never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with anyone she came in contact with, whether it was at church, the salon, community events…it didn’t matter, she was definitely going to spark up a conversation. Mable leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Judy Holloway-Mayes, Terri Holloway; son, Todd (Nolana) Holloway; grandchildren, Tequila (Andrew) Cornelious, Shayne Holloway-Evans, Malakai Holloway, Niamya Holloway, Todd Holloway II, Caleb Holloway, Maleah Holloway and Latonya (Corey) Simmons; great-grandchildren, Andee Cornelious, Nicholas Cornelious, Shannan Hare and Jordyn Hare; brother, Joseph Shelton; goddaughters, Debra Drake, Sharron Bacon, Clara Black, Karen Murphy, Helen Lutz, Suzette Isom, Kimberly McMillon, Kimberly Davis; godsons, Kerry Drake, Phillip Drake, James (Shannon) Davis; special cousin, James (Catherine) McCoy; special nieces, Vanessa Boone, Peggy Jackson, Monet Scott, Mary Anderson; other relatives and friends including special friends, Charlene Robinson, Mattie Beachum, Carol Walker, Rozetta Boarden, Doreen Leek, Pastor Flinnoia (Bridget) Hall III and the Cornelious family. Mrs. Holloway was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sarah Shelton; husband, Burton Holloway, Sr.; son, Burton Holloway, Jr.; 11 sisters; two brothers, and a special nephew, Elmer Ellsworth. The family would like to express a special thanks to the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter; the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church family; Belinda Butler-Johnson, Tamelka Doster and Betty Sanders; the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care, Hospice care team (Janet, Chris and Sandra); Dr. Minoo Khetarpahl and the staff of Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday November 29, 2020 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Pastor Vincent McMillon will officiate with entombment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens,7475 Holland Road, Saginaw, MI 48601.
