Mrs. Margell "Margie" Moore

Margell “Margie” Moore ended her earthly sojourn on August 23, 2022. Margell was the oldest daughter of Mattie Dixon and Clarence Thompson, Sr. of Brookhaven, Mississippi. Due to the frailties of her mother, Mattie. Margell was relegated to the role of becoming “mother” to her siblings Clarence, Jr., Ruth Helen, Ernest and Betty, at the tender age of nine. Undaunted, Margell assumed the role of heading the Thompson household. She arose every morning at 5:30 to prepare breakfast and lunches for her father and siblings. Margell attended school sporadically until 9-10th grade. But she was adamant that her brothers and sisters completed high school. The rigors of managing a household decimated her teen years socially. Everyone in the community admired her dedicated and she was affectionately called “Little Mama”. She raised her other siblings, and to this day her baby sister, Betty, still called her “Ma”. Following her father’s job on the railroad, the family moved to New Orleans. Later, during the middle 40’s the family moved to Muskegon, MI where Margell met and married Joe W. Moore. That union produced two sons, Larry Lee and Jerry, both of Atlanta, GA. When the marriage dissolved, Margell moved to Saginaw, MI to be with her parents who had left Muskegon several years earlier. After working as a domestic, a cook at Cook’s Restaurant and a factory worker at Illinois Shade Company for several years. Margell got her GED and attended Saginaw Beauty Academy, where she obtained her beautician’s license in the early 60’s. Margell worked under the tutelage of the owner of Carlean Gill before converting her basement on 10th and Walnut into a salon. She also assisted in her brother, Ern’s Seafood Restaurant, baking sweet potato pies, pound cakes, and banana pudding. Margell joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was a steadfast, dedicated, and loyal member for 70 years. There she adopted sisters as god-daughters, Lela, Dorothy, Carrie, Debra and Gloria to be the daughters she never had. Margell worked with the Caring Hands Committee and attended Bible Study faithfully. Margell was an impeccable dresser; dress, hat, shoes, matching purse beautifully coordinated every Sunday. Margell is survived by two sons, Larry and Jerry Moore; one sister, Betty Sims; step-daughters. Antoinette Robinson, Devette Moore and Wanda Kinsey; stepson, Bernard and Joe, Jr.; granddaughters, Fatimah Ashaela Kalynda Moore and Sunniyah Moore; sisters-in-law, Elizbeth Barlow and Mildred Thompson; nieces and nephews, Randy (Debbie) and Roger Sims, Ernest Jr. (Sharessa) Jeffrey, Michelle, and Aric Thompson (Sara), Vernice Arther (Mary), Mike (Tracy) Johnson, Keith (Dana) Cistrunk and Patricia Pinner; cousins, Bernard (Carolyn), David (Nadia) Dixon, Stephanie Sue Bulloch, Rodney Elpheage, Cal Street, Joy (Debbie), and Edward (Mary) Ferguson; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends, including her dear friends of “The Mothers’ Club”, Alice and Carol Dunn, Pat Frierson, Barbara Gearlds, Sherry Hannah, Gwen and Mary Harris, Diana Jones, Mary Lee, Wynita McClaine, Ruby Menzies, Mersheal Philps, Doris Porterfield, Minnie Reese and Caroyn Young. The family wishes to thank all family and friends for your warm outpouring of prayers, condolences and encouragement. Special thanks to the members of Zion Missionary Baptist Church who were there to support Margell to the very end. The members (daughters) of the Mothers’ Club who were lifelong friends and companions. Finally, thanks to our relatives, friends and neighbors who provided comfort and prayers. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Randy Sims will officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
