Ms. Mary Jones

Surrounded by family, our beloved Mary Jones went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the age of 89 years. She was born June 20, 1928 in Denham Springs, Louisiana to Arthur Scott and Callie Terrell. Mary married her soulmate, Leroy Jones on December 21, 1947 and they were together for 35 years until his death in 1982. They moved to Saginaw, MI in 1953 from Denham Springs, LA from where they raised her four youngest siblings and a nephew. She co-owned and operated Leroy’s Marathon Station and worked for the Career Opportunity Center (COC) before retiring in the early 1990’s. Giving her life to Christ at a young age, Mary always stressed the importance of having a relationship with God. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years under the leadership of the late Pastor Rev. R.B. Austin. Her greatest joys in life were serving God, cooking, shopping at flea markets, car rides (“Driving Miss Mary”) with her brother Russell, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Jones memory will be cherished by her sisters, twin sister, Martha (Berlin) Lockhart, Denham Springs, LA and Bobbie Sowell, Saginaw, MI; beloved nephew whom she raised, Louis Johnson, Saginaw; brothers, Eugene (Paulette) Terrell, Lionell (Dorothy) Terrell and Russell (Paula) Terrell, all of Saginaw; special nieces, Ashley Terrell and Lettie Lockhart; grandchildren, Valencia M. Johnson, Tashee A. Johnson, Quintera Y. Harrison, Quansha M. Harrison, Shareef J. Johnson; six great-grandchildren; nephews, William E. Lockhart and Berlin Lockhart, Jr., a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Scott and Callie Terrell; husband, Leroy Jones, a special friend, Walker Glass; four brothers, Richard, Henry, Harry and Louis Johnson, Sr.; three sisters, Corrine Johnson, Yvonne Terrell and Roberta Thomas; nieces, Barbara Ann Lockhart, Devetta Terrell, Vonnee Terrell and Joann Singleton. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 810 Cathay Street, Saginaw, MI 48601. Pastor Blake D. Strozier will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48607 on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to greet friends.
