Melba Jean Banks

Ms. Melba Jean Banks finished her earthly journey on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the age of 64 years. She was born October 28, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Hillard and Arthurene (McMillan) Banks. Melba was a resident of Saginaw, MI and she attended Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Saginaw High School “Class of 1968” and then moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1971. After moving back to Saginaw, MI she graduated from Saginaw Business Institute in 1972 and was employed at Second National Bank until her health failed. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Ms. Banks leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Tracy L. Banks; her son, Hassan (Rakia) Banks; mother, Arthurene Banks of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Brieanna Banks, DeAsia Lewis, TreVion West, DaMyah Lewis and Hassan Banks II, all of Saginaw, MI; great-grandchildren, Anthony Spencer III DeMarion Jackson and DeMari’yae Jackson; god-daughters, Karla Moran and Phyllis Henderson, all of Saginaw, MI; grandparents, Rev. Mal (Martha) McMillan, Dolphus McDonald, Ella Banks; sister, Elaine Banks; brother, Benjamin Banks; nieces, Katrina (Joshua) Dogans and Shanna Tipton; nephews, Tyrell (CaMillia) Banks, Claude J. Wills and Robert Wills; aunts, Annie McMillan, Moline McKeethen, Cucecil Banks, Annie Banks, Sararee Banks, all of Saginaw, MI, Audrey McMillan, Nashville, TN and Mary Taggert, Lynn, MA; uncles, Harold McMillan and Joe T. Banks, both of Saginaw, MI; special cousin, Ricky Calhoun; a host of other relatives, grandchildren, cousins and friends, Connie, Sharon, Dee, Tonja, Karen and Mary; and special friends, Pam Sangster, Doris Murry and Rowena Aubrey. Melba was preceded in death by her father, Hillard Banks; grandparents; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Covenant Medical Center-Harrison 6th floor, ICU, Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church and the Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home staff. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 North 6th Street with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Desmon Daniel will officiate. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
