Vincent McMillon, Pastor. Rev. Andre Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Browne's Mortuary, 441 N. Jefferson Ave. on Wednesday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. Our beloved Melvin Lee Shaw was born on September 2, 1940, to Ethel and Willie Shaw in Vance, Mississippi. He was the sixth of ten children born to this union. In 1953, the entire family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. Melvin, then 13, was very active in the Memphis Public School System where he attended Hamilton High School. At the age of 17, he left Memphis and stepped out on faith in an attempt of having an abundant and blessed life and moved to Saginaw, Michigan to stay with relatives, Percy and Margaret Washington. He worked countless odd jobs to make ends meet until he landed employment with General Motors here in Saginaw. Upon retirement, he had earned over 46 years of clock hours as an employee of GM; something that we all know that he was very proud of. Melvin also welcomed the opportunity to get to know the Lord as his personal savior. He was an active member of the St. Paul Baptist Church for nearly 40 years where he was a committed member of the ushers ministry. Melvin was very proud of his church and his faithfulness both to God and his church family. He was also a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Kosciusko, MS, where he also served on the usher boards and joined the Carthage Jubilee Singers. Melvin was a true friend of those that he befriended and just absolutely loved spending time with his family. He loved to entertain and to be entertained. He will be truly missed by those that really knew him on a personal level. Melvin leaves precious memories to a loving and devoted wife, Ida Shaw; his mother, Ethel Shaw of Memphis, TN.; two daughters, Sheila (Brook) Harris of San Diego, CA., Charmaine Level of Camp Stanley, Korea; two sons, Duane Shaw (Dishun) of Cedar Rapids, IA., Alvin (Churi) Level of Detroit, MI.; one step-daughter, Annie Greer of Saginaw, MI.; five step-sons, Lovon (Robin) Greer, Paul Greer, Lynn Greer, Kenneth Riley and Ricky Riley, all of Saginaw, MI.; six sisters, Bessie Allen of Chicago, IL., Bertha Glasper, Emma Jones, Dorothy (Freddie) Johnson, Marvis Pettis, Carolyn (Ray) Newbern, all of Memphis, TN.; three brothers, Roosevelt (Dora) Shaw, Verlon Shaw and Willie Shaw, Jr., all of Memphis, TN.; a special sister-in-law, Diane Riley; special friend, L. V. Allen; three god-children, Courtney Patterson, Melba Coleman and Joe Bowen, III, all of Saginaw, MI.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His father Willie O. Shaw, Sr, and eldest brother Cleofies Shaw predeceased him in death. Melvin passed away peacefully in his vacation home in Sallis, Mississippi on July 10, 2006.
