Ms. Mildred Larkin

Mildred Larkin was born on August 5, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to the nickname of “Baby Green”, the daughter of Catherine (Slaughter) Mitchell and Alex Thomas. She passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the age of 64 years. She dedicated her life to Christ at Union Mission Baptist Church at an early age. She graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis, MO in 1974. After high school, she attended Forest Park College, she then moved to Chicago, IL in 1978. She attended Kennedy King College and obtained her first job at Belle Electric. After relocating to St. Louis, MO, she received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in 1980. She also worked as a chef at Kemoll’s, an upscale Italian restaurant. In 1987 she moved to Flint, Michigan to be near her mother, and then moved to Saginaw, MI. Mildred “Loved” going to school and therefore earned her Associate in Science in Word Processing in 1991, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1999 and then went on to complete her MBA in Human Resources in 2001. She retired from Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (G.C.C.A.R.D.) as an Intake Assessment Counselor in 2010. She was a great mother, sibling, auntie, counselor and friend to many. Her love, presence, smile, talks and historical family knowledge will be truly missed. She was known throughout the community for her kindness, loving gentle heart, spit fire, patience and wanting everyone to succeed. She loved to cook, laugh a lot and spend time with her daughters, grandbabies siblings, nieces, nephews, and many longtime friends. She also loved bingo, surfing Facebook and playing her games on the computer. Ms. Larkin leaves many beautiful memories within the hearts of her three daughters, Sheron Michelle (Eric) Walker, Saginaw, MI, Charmel Annquilhette (Tony) Green and Mylinda LaTrece Larkin, both of Flint, MI; nine sisters, Mary Catherine Drain, Helen Jean Richardson, Mary Ann (James) Wilkins, Cynthia Stiger, Diane (Ron) Caldwell, Jimmyella (Paul) Toney, Brenda Moore, Linda (Alfred) Dyson, and Bernice (Nate) Allen; seven brothers, Lee Ervin (Dawana) Greene, Bruce (Cathy) Greene, Michael Greene, Ronald, Donald, Howard and Lenard Green; nine grandchildren, Sha’Kayla Ny’Ree Walton, Alexis Marie Miller, Roy Clayton Keahey III, Jordon Tyler Keahey, Eric Dalvon Walker II, Edrick Damond Walker, Xavier Shane Cox, Austin Dereck Jones and Isaiah Charles Burks; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Michelle Walton, Eddie Alex Dean III and Aaliyah Nicole Bell; god-grandchildren, Ty’Qan Avery and Teosha Boseman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and gracious friends, including special friends, Sue Jones, Dorretta Dotson and Tallaha Elmore. Mildred Larkin was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine Mitchell and Alex Thomas; brother, Eddie “Buck” Greene; aunts, Sylverleen Taylor and Jettie B. Adams; uncles, Eddie and Terry Slaughter. Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Newer Dimensions Fellowship Ministries, 3430 W. Jefferson St., Carrollton, MI 48724 with the funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Maurice Hopgood will officiate with interment in Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St., Flint, MI 48505. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
