Mr. Milton McDonald

Milton McDonald was born September 24, 1944 in Louisville, Mississippi to the late Milus McDonald and Mary G. (McQueen) McDonald. Milton made his transition into Heaven on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 9:58 a.m. at the age of 74 years. He accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church in Louisville, Mississippi. He was currently a member of Bethel AME Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Milton graduated from Louisville Colored High School in 1962. He was a great athlete in high school where he participated in Golden Gloves, track, football and baseball. Following high school, Milton attended Mississippi Industrial College for one year. In 1963 Milton joined the US Army, where he attended airborne school. During that time, he completed 33 jumps and received a parachutist badge. While in basic combat training his specialty was weapons infantryman. Milton was very proud of the years he served in the US Army and shared many stories with family and friends about his Army experiences including the time he was a member of the Army’s baseball team. He worked for Saginaw Steering Gear General Motors at plant 6 in Saginaw, Michigan and retired after 33 years. During his 33 years, he served as a job setter, alternate committee man and committee man. He was a very active member of UAW local 699 for many years. Milton enjoyed spending time with his family vacationing and sitting around telling stories. He also spent many summers playing softball, fishing, and going to the horse track. He always inspired people to do what was right and his favorite quote was “treat people the way you want to be treated.” As the family patriarch he made sure all needs were met; he didn’t use the word “No” very often when it came to the things his family wanted. Milton met Bettie at an early age and began dating her in high school. They were united as husband and wife on February 14, 1964. He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Bettie McDonald to cherish many memories as they were blessed to have three children, Anthony, Cassandra Renae and Doretha McDonald; five grandchildren, Danita McDonald and Arlisha McDonald of Shreveport, Louisiana, Anthony (Gabrielle) McDonald Jr. of Houston, Texas, Jerry Parker, Jr. of Novi, Michigan and Haley McDonald of Saginaw, Michigan; two great grandchildren, Dante McDonald and Sanaa Carter of Shreveport, Louisiana; one brother, Milus McDonald, Jr.; two sisters, Beverly Armstrong (Patrick) of Louisville, Mississippi and Lorrain (Doll) Stephens (Jack) of Jackson, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Lodean Brown and Deborah Stephens; two brothers-in-law, Royce (Luella) Stephens and Crandale Ursula) Stephens, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, Milus and Mary McDonald, and one brother, Freddie McDonald. The family extends special thanks to A & D Hospice, Fresenius Kidney Care, Glen Rush, Doug and Linda Lane, Debra Stephens and Henry Landfair. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Bethel AME Church, 535 Cathay Street., Saginaw, MI 48601, Pastor Dennis Laffoon will officiate with interment in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisville, Mississippi. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607 on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
