Ned Lewis, Sr.

Mr. Ned Lewis, Sr. was born February 1, 1942 in Newbern, AL to the late Inez Everson-Lewis and the late Patrick Lewis, Sr. He departed this life on March 25, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper at the age of 73 years. Ned retired at the age of 45 years from the Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant in 1987. He served as an outstanding member in the Saginaw community and was well received by his peers. He was also well known for his many talents and hobbies that included, DJ’ing for various party events, playing dominos, cards, hunting and fishing. He was a former club member of various club affiliations and organizations in the community. Ned was an extraordinary man who never met a stranger. He had a love for life that was beyond measures and he appreciated all of life’s treasures. His smile was magnetic, genuine, warm and inviting. Those who knew him said he never had an enemy. He had a kind heart and a generous soul. He shared his compassionate spirit with the young and the old. Ned was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, the late Minnie Lee Lewis. To this union, he shared an extended family. He leaves to cherish his memory, six children, Amanda Lynette Lewis-Terry, Duluth, GA, Debra Figures, Atlanta, GA, Vanette Dawkins, Ronald Christian, Keith Harmon and Antwan Lewis; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Lewis, Ft. Wayne, IN; brothers, Robert Goodson, Ft. Wayne, IN, Willie James Lewis of Florida and Olivent “Buddy” Lewis, Ft. Wayne, IN; special nephew, Charles “Buch” Turner, whom he loved like a son; his loving niece, Inez “Sister” (Raymond) Tyson; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and well-loved friends. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his son, Ned Lewis, Jr.; two sisters, Carrie Brown and Amanda Tate; and two brothers, George Goodson and Patrick Lewis, Jr. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Avenue. Dr. Desmon Daniel will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
