Mrs. O.C. Whiting

Mrs. O.C. Whiting (Davis) was born April 28, 1928, in Wisner, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Grover Lee Davis, Sr. and Julia Ellis Davis and the second of five children. Our beloved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, god-mother, cousin and friend peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the age of 87 years surrounded by family and friends. O.C. came to Saginaw, Michigan in 1949. She became a member at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church shortly after coming to Saginaw. She was a loyal and dedicated member for over 55 years. O.C. joined the Ushers Ministry in 1961 and served in this ministry for 54 years. She has always had a heart to serve. In addition to the Ushers Ministry, she served on the Finance Committee until her husband became ill. She regularly attended the Sunday Early Morning Worship Service, was present for Noon Day Bible Study on Tuesdays and attended Mission Meetings as they were scheduled. She worked retail at Seitner of Saginaw; taught young students at Morley Elementary School and was a laborer at General Motors. She retired from General Motors in 1996 after more than 30 years of service. O.C. enjoyed bowling, traveling, shopping, gardening, sewing, and reading the Bible. It gave her great joy to hold conversations regarding Bible scriptures and God’s goodness, Grace and Mercy. She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 son, Mr. Larry Lee Whiting of Saginaw, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Juanita Smith of Saginaw, Michigan and Mrs. Marie Lewis of Monroe, Louisiana; 1 sister-in-law, Mrs. Berta L. (Sweetie) Davis of Saginaw, Michigan; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Mr. Kary Lee Dickens, Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan; and many friends including special friends, Deacon James Nash, whose kindness will never be forgotten, Rev. and Mrs. Charles Roots and family, Mrs. Grace Isaac and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Russell and family, Mrs. Lillie Pearl Carter and family, Mrs. Connie Humes, Mrs. Eleanor Taylor, Mrs. Lillie Thomas and Mrs. Shirley Roberson. O.C. Whiting was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Whiting; parents, Grover Lee Davis, Sr. and Julia Davis; stepmother, Lettie Davis; 2 sisters, Ollie Lee Sledge and Angela Davis Moore; 2 brothers, Grover Lee Davis, Jr. and Othineil Bridges; a special niece, Kathryn (Kathy) Dickens; and many other relatives. The family of O.C. Whiting would like to express a special thank you to Mrs. Margaret Roots, Mrs. Grace Isaac and her special nephew, Mr. Kary Lee Dickens, Jr. Your love, kindness and care of O.C. Whiting will forever be remembered. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 N. 6th Street., Dr. Marvin T. Smith, Host Pastor. Rev. Desmon Daniel will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
