Mr. Odell "Hangdown" Stanton Jr.

Mr. Odell “Hangdown” Stanton, Jr. was born on July 26, 1947 to Odell and Mildred Stanton, Sr. He was re-born when he gave his life to Christ on January 8, 2003 and became a member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church of Saginaw, Michigan. He passed away on August 5, 2023 at the age of 76 years. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1965. Odell was employed with General Motors Delphi Steering Gear and a member of UAW Local 699 for 31 years until his retirement in 1997. Odell married the love of his life, Phyllis; they would have celebrated 21 years of marriage in August 2023. He enjoyed traveling and watching sports. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his style of dressing and consistently showing what friendship looks like. Odell “Hangdown” Stanton, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory are his children, a devoted son, Derric (Marchelle) and Vincent, D’Sean (Valencia), Patrick, Pamela, Trina, Marcia, Jeaneen (Alberto); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, James (Velma) Elizabethtown, NC, Connie (Pamela), San Franciso, CA and Willie (Karol), Detroit, MI; three sisters, Elizabeth, Hermitage, TN, Cleo (Bernie), LaPuenta, CA and Truthia (Sam), Saginaw, MI; brother-in-law, Kevin (Rebecca), San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Verna, Cincinnati, OH; special cousins, Issac and James Swilley; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Odell “Hangdown” Stanton, Jr. was preceded in death by his son, Lamont; daughter, Tori; parents, Odell and Mildred Stanton, Sr.; sisters, Dorothy Powe and Bertha Hardison. The family extends special acknowledgment to “The Gang” as they called themselves sharing friendship of 50 plus years; Larry Lindsey, Willie (Punkin) Brewer, Sonny Hodges, Richard Williams, Calvin Little, Charles Williams, Floyd Smith and William “Billy” Prince; special extended friendship with Willie McMillan, Alonzo Smith, Hudell McKinney, Henry Hatfield, Louis Mitchell and George Washington. The family also expresses special thanks to Ascension Genesys of Grand Blanc, MI, 3rd floor ICU and 2nd floor Nurses and staff. The family is grateful for the many kind acts of expression of sympathy extended to them in so many thoughtful ways. Your kindness has been a source of great comfort. May God bless you all. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 North 29th Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Dr. Willie R. Hill, Jr. will officiate. Interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 North Center Road, Saginaw, MI 48603. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
