Missionary Patricia Lamar

Missionary Patricia Joan Lamar went from labor to reward on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the age of 86 years. She was born on February 5, 1937 in Union City, Tennessee to Willa and Elijah Lax. She graduated from Washington High School in South Bend Indiana. Patricia Lamar married Duff Lamar in 1954, and they later move to Saginaw, Michigan in the late 50s. Patricia was a graduate of Delta College and she worked for the city of Saginaw as a complaint investigator an environmental improvement agent. She loved to read and was an African-American History buff. She loved shopping, eating good food, attending church revivals and spending time with her grandchildren. Evangelist Patricia J. Lamar was a devoted member of the Church of God in Christ and considered it an honor to serve under the dynamic headship of many COGIC leaders including Bishop P.A. Brooks, Mother Willie Mae Rivers, spiritual mentor Mother Norma Burrell, her pastor Superintendent J.E. Walker of Faith Gospel Temple COGIC (Flint, MI), and Superintendent Kevelin B. Jones, Sr. She became a Missionary and served in the Women’s Department as a trainer, master workshop presenter, and fiery teacher of the gospel. Missionary Lamar was appointed State Prayer & Bible Band President of the Northeast Michigan Jurisdiction by the late State Supervisor Mother Mary J. Hopkins. Missionary Lamar also served as District Missionary of the Abundant Love and Peace Districts. She received many awards and acknowledgements for her service to the Church of God in Christ. Queen Mother Patricia J. Lamar has always been a revered servant, activist, and advocate in the Saginaw community. She was a member of the Saginaw African Cultural Festival Committee and later crowned Queen Mother of the festival. She was a co-founder of Forgotten Man Ministries; Saginaw Community Foundation Scholarship Committee; and member of Sankofa, Inc. Queen Mother served as Program Director of New Alternatives Youth Service Center, which was founded by her late daughter Pamela Jordan. At New Alternatives, she mentored hundreds of students focusing on substance abuse prevention, teen pregnancy prevention and abstinence, and violence prevention. While serving as Program Director at New Alternatives, Queen Mother became lovingly known as “Ms. Lamar” and “Granny.” She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her children; Darwin (Andrea) Lamar, Monique Lamar-Silvia, her bonus children, Duff Lamar, Jr., Hedy Robinson, Patricia Jones, Karen Algee, Gayle Hayles; grandchildren, Dana, Melony, Janey, Cedric, Terri, Alonda, Jermaine, Brianna, Taylor (D’Perrius), Monique, Daryae; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jean McGhee, Alma Lax, Gwendolyn Buirse, Sheila Harvell and Kenny Lax; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Audrey Beatty, Larry Wilson and Janice West. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duff Lamar, Sr.; daughters, Paulette Lamar-Rainey, Pamela Lamar-Jordan; sons, Terry Lamar, John Lamarr, Sr.; granddaughter, Tamika Latosha Silvia; her parents, Elijah and Willa Lax; sister, Greta Lax; brother Benjamin Lax, special friends, Mother Geraldine Anderson, Dorothy Blakes, Mother Norma Burrel and Mother Rosie Ferrell. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at Victorious Believers Ministries COGIC, 624 S. Outer Dr., Saginaw, MI 48601. Supt. Christopher V. Pryor, Host Pastor and Supt. J. E. Walker will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI 48601 Friends may call at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N.
